Saddlewoods Steak Ranch — Restaurant in Roodepoort

Let me start by saying: the food? Good. The service? Slicker than a greased-up slip 'n slide at a summer BBQ. Saddle Wood on Doreen Road knows how to plate up a proper steak — juicy, seasoned, and so tender it almost apologises before you cut into it.

But here’s where things got... ugly.

My wife and I sit down, all cozy, ready to feast like royalty. But halfway through our meal, we start shifting in our seats like toddlers in church. I glance under the table and — HOLY CRAP — the metal framework under there is basically Wolverine’s skeleton. I’m telling you, it was sharper than the steak knives they gave us… and those knives could carve through granite.

I leaned forward to grab some salt, and that thing nearly performed surgery on my kneecap. My wife tried to cross her legs and the table said, “I don’t think so, Sharon.” We left with full bellies, happy hearts, and matching leg scars like we’d just auditioned for an action movie.

In summary: ✅ Food – amazing. ✅ Service – top notch. ❌ Table traps – proceed with caution. Wear leg guards. Or chainmail. Whatever works.

Would we go back? Absolutely. But next time, I'm bringing a toolbox, a helmet, and a first aid kit — just in case the table wants round two.

The food was 'OK', but the service was terrible and the manager was rude.

We went there because we have the entertainer app which has a special so we phoned in advance and made a booking after asking if the entertainer app discounts applied. (We were told by a gentleman on the phone that they would).

When we arrived we asked about it and were told by the manager that the restaurant has never been a part of the entertainer. We explained that we were told on the phone that it would. The manager said he would go find out who answered the phone. He never came back to us despite the fact that I asked the waitress to call him as well as two other employees. He completely ignored us.

After that service was bad , they forgot part of our meal and the food was quite mediocre.

We were also told on the phone that they had a children's play area. I don't think that one very broken trampoline and a rickety jungle gym really count. Kids couldn't really play there and for the short while that they did they needed our assistance for safety sake considering how rickety the...

The new venue felt cold and sterile. The decor needs some professional help. These improvements, while certainly costly, would go a long way to improve the dining experience.

The menus were tatty, crumpled, and looked old, even though they had the new address on them.

The staff were great on arrival and very friendly. We were checked on by management and by the waitron. Our meals were delicious and well prepared. We were offered replacement drinks when we had finished our first.

This was then let down by leaving one person sitting with an empty plate, for an uncomfortable length of time. When we were all done and needed to leave for an appointment, our waiter was nowhere in site. Even when we did get to call for the bill, the waiter got distracted by fellow staff and kept us waiting again. There were only 5 groups of people dining there so this was not because the staff were too busy or overworked.

We love the food and their pricing has always been reasonable. Work on these other issues and it will be a fantastic place to frequent.
