Cafe 1865 is the best cafe in Western Cape in my opinion. We found this cafe by accident and we were very impressed with their amazing menu, great atmosphere, excellent service, great quality food, huge variety of high quality loose tea and a wonderful coffee. The cafe uses high quality ingredients, free range eggs, they fry everything in coconut oil. Their blinis, which is a European version of pancakes, very similar to crepes, are the best in the world. They have both savory and sweet options. Their blinis with salmon and blinis with creamy mushrooms are amazing! The eggs Benedict with bacon and tomato jam and also Benedict with salmon are the best I had in Western Cape. The beetroot soup is fabulous. Their sweet pancakes with cherry jam are wonderful as well and their chocolate cherry cake and zebra cake are very delicious. Their pizza is fantastic and it comes with a special pesto sauce for a crust. Mad hatter pizza is my favorite. Whatever we tried to eat in this cafe, was absolutely delicious and high quality food! And as a tea lover I absolutely appreciate the huge variety of a great quality loose tea which comes in a teapot with a candle underneath it to keep it warm. The atmosphere and service is fabulous. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and we always feel home there. So, we are very grateful to find such a gem in Somerset West and ever since it has been our favorite place to come for breakfast or lunch or just for tea and coffee or pizza. Thank you for the great experience every time we...
Read moreSomerset West is full of treasures and we tumbled down a rabbit hole to have a gorgeous brunch break at one of them.
@cafe_1865 is really pretty, I love the decor, ambience and of course the unusual chandeliers created for Irina, the lovely Russian dreamer who created this whimsical space.
We had the Summer time tea because I am missing Summer so much, it was fragrant and delightfully intriguing, hot and even cool. (that you have to allow in your stunning tea cup as the candle under the tea pot keeps the tea fabulously warm.)
The Shashuska and the Salmon eggs Benedict were superbly delicious and let's not talk about the souffle pancake tower with chocolate and banana.
It was a heavenly delight for both the eyes and the taste buds.
The presentation of all their offerings arr gorgeous, such attention to detail and a feast for the eyes.
The jazzy music in the background was just the extra touch I needed to lift my mood for the week ahead.
Thank you Irina and team. That...
Read moreMy friends and I decided to try out this cute spot for lunch. We arrived at 11:20 and only received our meals at 12:46. Firstly, they took our drink orders, mixed them up and gave them at a later stage. We had to ask for straws as well. The food was cold and bland. The waiters avoided us and not once took a moment to ask if we are OK or provide any feedback about the food order. When we asked for the bill at 12:34, they assured us the food was on the way. When in fact, it was nowhere near done. Note: the quantity of food we were presented with was slivers in comparison to the price. Definitely not worth it. They were helping and serving other patrons who arrived long after us. Your waitstaff needs better training. Hire more kitchen staff. The quality of food (which I found to be quite disappointing) will not decrease if you have more than one chef making the dishes. The restaurant looks beautiful and unique, but my experience...
