This was the perfect spot for my friend’s “Welcome to South Africa” dinner—and it exceeded all expectations.
To start, we both ordered the curry butternut soup, which was hands-down the best I’ve ever had. The accompanying bread struck the ideal balance between chewy and crunchy, pairing beautifully with the soup.
For the main course, I chose the Durban chicken curry. The chicken was tender and richly marinated, with a complex blend of spices that transported me back to my time in Durban.
Dessert was a standout: the malva pudding was warm, comforting, and just sweet enough. Even better, the topping was cashew-based—ideal for my dairy-free friend and a refreshing change from the usual custard.
Add to that the excellent service, and we’ll definitely be coming back....

People, JUST BOOK! You won't be sorry. I can't recommend a specific dish on the menu because it's all INCREDIBLE! Their wine list is also one to write home about!
But they also have a great date night special, which I LOVED as I'm a big Aperol Spritz fan! It's a dining experience for Everyone and truly hits the spot on all fonts when it comes to Food, ambience, service and affordability.
All the poshness, Let me know if you go and what you think...
Read moreMet friends for dinner at De Vier last night. Love the concept and the food was very good indeed. A warm welcome from the owner at the door was a lovely start. My only concern is the small menu will become a challenge after 3 visits so I'm hoping the 4 options for each course will rotate seasonally. Time will tell. The battered hake was amazing as were the fries, a very generous portion which I couldn't finish. The deconstructed cheese cake was yummy although a little sweet for me. Prices a little on the high side as sides are not included but the food didn't disappoint. Sadly we were only one of two tables so the atmosphere was a little quiet. The background music was good though. Comfy chairs and very cosy decor. Service excellent. Will be back to try...
