Good pizza, if you like it cold (and relalitvely expensive* for takeaway) and with the same tempterature 'customer service'. Not been to the restaurant (yet**) but being a Friday night assumed they would be busy, so thought we'd 'pre-order', at 7pm for an 8pm delivery. Was told it wil 'be an hour' so that seemed to be 'ok' for us. However at 8:30pm, after texting the mobile number we had (for PIN access to estate) assuming that was the delivery driverr, but no answer, so tried calling the main number for restaurant, which was simply engaged 10-15 mins. Finally got through only to be told 'yeah he'as on his way to you' and when I question the delay. was simply told 'yeah, it's Friday night, can take an hour or and hour and a half. No apology, just 'he's on his way' (again).
Looking at some of the other 'less-than-glowing' reviews of Gino's, it would appar that the food quality is generally not in question, but the 'customer service' is an issue. Or just basic manners, perhaps?!
So the 'two stars' is more about the overall experience: cold, late Friday night comfort food (takeway), with a give-sh*t-attitude.
So, for R240 for two pizzas, there was also an uplift of R70 to the total (30% ..!) to R310 for the Delivery and 'gluten free' option (for one of the pizzas). Now, whilst the latter charge was perhaps understandable, neither 'surcharge' appears to be stated on the website/menu page (that I could find, at least...), nor were they advised of when placing the order on the phone.... Surely that is not coorect, in Consumer terms......?!
** Based on tonight, doubtful we will. We are residents, not tourists. Perhaps something to keep in mind, when the...
Read moreEdit: Horrendous experience today. We were 'greeted' by rude waitress/manager at the entrance. We did not feel welcomed at all. She asked what can I help you with, but in a tone that suggested we were not welcomed there. We ordered a dom Pedro which is on the menu as 'dom Pedro with whiskey' then asked what whiskey it had. Waitress told us she didn't know so we said Jameson whiskey. On the menu it did not specify the whiskey or mention a special at all. It was +-R40 on the menu. We got the check and it says Jameson whiskey R35 and special R26 in total we payed R61 for a Dom Pedro which was supposed to be R40. There was no Dom Pedro on the slip. We confronted the waitress. She said it cost more because of a special order but she didn't even know what the normal order was for Dom Pedro and whiskey. No notification of extra costs before we ordered. I feel SCAMMED and will not come back to this restaurant. It is quite sad how low this restaurant has stooped to. I don't recommend this place anymore go to basic bistro if you want good service and good Dom Pedro's or chai latte.
Old review: Amazing pizza, but be warned you need two people to eat a pizza unless your starving. Staff members are friendly and will answer any of your questions regarding the restaurant. I recommend getting a pizza and whiskey don pedro, the best don pedro you will get in town. They always show sport on their TVs too. Recommend this place to families wanting to eat out, watch sport and drink or couples who...
Read moreRecap Old school traditional pizza place, indoor / outdoor it’s a perfect mix of a Tuscany-style Osteria (indoor) with some beach club touches (outdoor). Ultimately, exceptional mix of vibes and tastes. We heard buzz and wanted to give it a try, so happy we did it!
Story Located in the heart of Stellenbosch, at Gino’s will find variety of traditional Italian pizzas and main meals will make you spoiled by choice literally.
Bear in mind to close an eye on service, noisy dining, manners (of customers mostly). Read through reviews and see what’s the pain point. You may be lucky / unlucky with waitron although it’s not just a matter of luck. Tables left dirty and / or unset, clients may be keep awaiting twenty minutes for some attention.
Back to menu, could not believe such authentic place in the heart of Stellenbosch! Mostly pretentious and spread over gentrification, it’s becoming hard to find a hundred percent genuine dine out place in fact. Gino’s established more than 30 yrs ago and has remained genuinely authentic.
Most importantly, flavor & taste are what you miss on here when it comes to real pizza. Crunchy and tasty, rich, generous. OMG!! Menu makes you feel you’ll be topping any even though the more you top up the less crunchy you’ll get pizza.
Anyway, returned three times during our two weeks off Stellenbosch despite Gino’s pricey for a pizza place, in particular on here and when adding up your fav ingredients. However, a...
