Wow! What a beautiful experience!
We were speechless and will treasure this memory 🥰 Ghenwa’s food is as unique as she is herself. We were greeted with so much warmth and hospitality, Ghenwa told us all about her food, her story and the history of the restaurant. She is such a humble and hard working person, and the passion she has for food and cooking is truly infectious! We felt like we were family. She creates a beautiful atmosphere.
And the food. Oh my goodness. It’s a journey. Take your time to enjoy every flavour Ghenwa prepares for you, every dish she prepares like it is the only one on the table, with so much love and detail, again you can taste the love she has for her culture and sharing it with others! Every dish is hand made from scratch by her with the vegetables and herbs from her garden, every dish has a different story that Ghenwa is happy to tell you about. And the taste is simply divine. It is difficult to describe it, I call it an experience because the food and Ghenwa’s company go hand in hand - make sure you come undistracted and with plenty of time to submerge yourself in this beautiful place and Lebanese culture. It is not a place to eat quickly, it’s a place where you can unwind, eat soul food and focus on the people you sit with.
10/10 recommended and we will be back ☺️
Thank you...
Read moreWhat an incredible experience! From the moment we walked through the door, we were made to feel like part of the family. Ghenwa and Geza are wonderful hosts and their love for food and wine is reflected in every bite and sip of wine.
Ghenwa's passion for food and sharing it with others shone through and I have never tasted such fresh and authentic Lebanese dishes before. We enjoyed incredible tastes of Lebanon - from the best Baba Ghanoush I have ever tasted, to delicious Warak Einab (dolmades) with vine leaves from Ghenwa's own garden, right through to Ghenwa's own pickled vegetables and the most delectable Kibbeh Akras.
Geza is an incredible ambassador for South African wine and loves to help select the best wines for Ghenwa's delectable dishes. He selected some incredible South African Grenache Noir, and unusual Sauvignon Blancs with us which paired perfectly with the food. It was fascinating to hear about the wines, and learn more about the terroir and winemakers who made them.
All in all, an immensely enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend a visit to Ghenwa's Culinary Club. But don't expect to be able to just "walk in" as they fill up very quickly - so make sure you...
Read moreGoing to Ghenwa's is more of a family meal experience than going to a restaurant. The place is named after Ghenwa and she wears many hats such as: chef, owner, historian and entertainer.
The menu is set with a smorgasbord of Lebanese dishes. Coming from an Arabic background I was familiar with the cuisine but wasn't sure how the other 6 others would like it as it was new to my Irish and Afrikana friends. Well, no need to have had any fears as it was a raving success, with everyone enjoying the food and the Middle Eastern experience.
As a connoisseur of Lebanese food this was excellent and more reminiscent of a home cooked meal at a friends house. Ghenwa explained all the dishes and gave a great background history of the food and the ingredients as she hand picks and grows many herself. The flavors were exquisite and you can definitely tell everything was freshly made with love, with the home grown herbs and spice flavors also showing.
When it is all said and done the most important thing is will you go again and everyone in our party plans to return with the exception of my wife and me as we are unfortunately only passing through Africa but will always cherish the experience of...
