Kanela Cafe Kanela Cafe is a beautiful restaurant situated in Sea Point, right beside The Greek Fisherman. In fact, it is actually the same building divided into two separate sections. They also share a courtyard, which is the most delightful spot to sit on a beautiful day. The interior is also absolutely stunning with lots of wooden features. It is a family run business and you definitely feel that from the warm hospitality. I was here about two weeks ago to meet up with a friend for breakfast. There was a bit of a queue, so we put our names on the waiting list. Normally, waiting for a seat can be quite awkward, but not here. We were able to order takeaway coffee through a little window and there was space to sit on the patio at the entrance. We were told it would be about a 15 minute wait but with the delicious flat white with almond milk and space to sit, the time flew by. We were lucky enough to get a spot in the courtyard, under an umbrella. Just perfect! It was so nice and relaxing, you couldn’t tell that there was a queue out the front and most probably a bustling kitchen. After just enough time to look through the menu and decide what we wanted, our waitress was ready to take our order. She had such a lovely energy about her and the biggest smile, it was so nice to see. I ordered the vegan tofu scramble (R130), no I’m not vegan, but I can definitely appreciate a good vegan dish. When I used to live closer to the area and visit to use their excellent wifi, this was my go to meal. I found it so well spiced with turmeric and other warm flavours and seasoned, simply delicious. No, it doesn’t resemble scrambled eggs, but it’s delicious in its own unique way. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations this time. It looked as beautiful and bright as I remembered, with the rich yellow colour and sautéed vegetables. Although, all I could taste is, well, tofu. It was incredibly bland and somewhat sour? Honestly, there is not much more to say. Apologies, my description is as dull as the scramble tasted. As for the rest of what was on my plate, the avocado was perfectly ripe, the roasted tomatoes were delicious, and the sourdough was golden brown and crispy. Even though the other elements of the plate were excellent, the star of the dish fell flat. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my meal. I’ve put off writing this review because I absolutely love this spot and the family who run it, but unfortunately, my last experience was underwhelming. I may be back for the coffee, and maybe one of their delicious treats but I can’t say I’ll want to risk having the tofu scramble again.

Stumbled upon Kanela Cafe while walking through Seapoint, the cafe window caught my attention but inside is a charming cafe with amazing vibes. They offer a selection of delicious breakfast, lunch, and brunch options. Upon entering Kanela Cafe, you are greeted with a warm and inviting interior that features plenty of natural light, vibrant decor, and comfortable seating. The menu boasts an array of classic and contemporary dishes, including mouth-watering avo toast, hearty sandwiches, and smoothies. One of the highlights of Kanela Cafe is its exceptional coffee selection, which is made with locally roasted beans and brewed to perfection. Whether you prefer a simple cappuccino or a more adventurous latte, the skilled baristas at Kanela Cafe have got you covered. In addition to its delicious food and drinks, Kanela Cafe is also praised for its excellent service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that every customer has a memorable experience. Viron one of the owners helps make everyone feel like a local thats been coming for ages. Overall, Kanela Cafe is a must-visit spot in Cape Town for anyone looking for a delicious meal, a great cup of coffee, and a cozy atmosphere. Whether you're meeting friends for brunch or looking for a quiet spot to work, this cafe is sure to exceed your expectations!

Awesome Café in town. I was looking for a new café to try out on a cold spring morning and decided to give it a try, although it was a bit of a drive up there but well worth the effort. Main entrance is kind of a blink and miss but once inside, it is like a new world with multiple rooms having a distinct, eclectic yet consistent décor, and a beautiful outdoor seating area. I opted to have a Cappuccino and Avo toast with beet root humus besides a fire place. Both were FANTASTIC! And are distinct in taste compared to same offerings in other café’s in/around Cape Town. Beet root humus on Avo Toast accentuates it to another level not offered anywhere else in my observation. I had a polenta cake slice as a take-away which my palate didn’t like but maybe it is just me as it was my first tasting of anything polenta. Service was great and prompt, check-in experience was cool. There are many vegan/vegetarian options for the finicky ones and lot of options to engage the kids like board games, books, puzzles etc. Verdict: For me it was the best breakfast experience in a long time and I would recommend anyone visiting town to try it out whenever you can, you’ll not be disappointed.
