It felt like fake porridge… The color came from mung beans, and the texture seemed to come from starch water. It seemed like a place made for foreign tourists rather than locals — a spot catering to visitors who aren’t familiar with real Korean abalone porridge.
I went there with my family during our trip to Busan because my younger sibling said it was a famous place. We brought our grandmother and mother, but the porridge was disappointing. It turned watery when mixed with saliva, almost like black bean noodles(짜장면).
Grandma didn’t say much while eating, but afterward, she told me it was hard to digest and that she probably couldn’t handle the mung beans.
From my point of view, the abalone pieces were large — that was the only good part — but there was no savory abalone flavor or liver taste. The rice grains didn’t taste like real porridge either. They weren’t slow-cooked but felt more like soaked rice.
Honestly, Bonjuk — a well-known Korean porridge franchise — tastes much better. It felt like they just soaked some rice, mixed it with mung bean starch water, and added a few pieces of...
Read moreThe Sky Capsule ride in Haeundae required us to make a reservation days in advance at a set time to board a capsule. We decided to leave our hotel a little early to allow some time to have breakfast. I found this particular spot on Google Maps conveniently located about a block away from the Blueline Mipo Station where we were to board our capsule. The cafe is a compact spot offering just five items on the menu including something intriguing called Warty Sea Squirt Hangover Soup. Their most popular item though is Abalone Rice Porridge. My husband and I both bought the large size for KRW 18,000. It was hearty and piping hot, delicious comfort food dominated by the greenness of the large, slightly chewy abalone. It gave the porridge a rich green hue. Our porridge came with fresh banchan and a small daikon soup and amounted to the ideal Korean...
Read moreI recently visited a local abalone porridge restaurant, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The porridge was incredibly rich and flavorful, with generous chunks of tender abalone that added a perfect touch of luxury to the dish. The seasoning was subtle, allowing the natural taste of the abalone to shine through.
The restaurant itself was clean and cozy, with a calm and traditional atmosphere. The staff were kind and attentive, making sure everything was to our satisfaction. It felt like a great place to enjoy a comforting and nourishing meal, especially on a cold day or when you're feeling under the weather.
Overall, I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to try authentic Korean abalone porridge. Absolutely worth it for the quality and freshness of the...
