Oh, Jeju. Just the name brings back a wave of incredible memories, and right near the top of that list is the taste of the Haemul Ramyeon from Jejugot Seogwipo. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5, and honestly, if I could give a half-star, it'd be a 4.5. It wasn't perfect, but it was perfectly me at that moment.
I remember it so clearly. It was a slightly chilly day, the kind where the sea breeze really makes you feel alive, and also a little bit hungry for something warm and comforting. We'd been exploring the coast, and our stomachs were rumbling. Someone suggested Jejugot, and the idea of "seafood ramyeon" on an island renowned for its fresh seafood sounded like pure heaven.
When the bowl arrived, my eyes just widened. It was a vibrant red, brimming with an impressive array of fresh seafood – mussels, a plump shrimp, a piece of abalone, and various other treasures peeking out from the noodles. The aroma alone was intoxicating; a rich, savory scent with hints of the sea and that unmistakable, spicy kick of Korean ramen.
The first spoonful was pure bliss. The broth was incredibly flavorful, deeply savory with a good level of spice that warmed me from the inside out without being overwhelming. And the seafood! It was so fresh, each piece perfectly cooked, adding its own unique texture and sweetness to the dish. The noodles, of course, were the classic chewy, satisfying kind that just soak up all that delicious broth.
There was a moment, maybe halfway through, where I just paused. I looked out the window at the glimpses of the ocean, felt the warmth of the bowl in my hands, and took another slurp. It wasn't just a meal; it was an experience. It was Jeju on a spoon. It was the feeling of being truly present, enjoying simple, honest food that was bursting with flavor and made with evident care.
Why not a perfect 5? Well, if I'm being nitpicky, perhaps one or two pieces of seafood were slightly chewier than I prefer, or maybe I've had ramyeon with a slightly more complex broth in my life. But honestly, those are minor quibbles. The overall feeling, the sheer deliciousness, and the way it perfectly complemented the Jeju experience made it utterly memorable.
If you're ever in Seogwipo, do yourself a favor and seek out Jejugot. Order the Haemul Ramyeon. It's more than just a bowl of noodles; it's a warm hug, a taste of the sea, and a moment of pure, unadulterated comfort that will stay with you long after the last drop of broth is gone. I still think about it. And I'm pretty sure I'll be...
Read moreStumbled upon this place on the snowy day and to our surprise, the food was really good!
The menu is quite limited only 3 types of Ramyeon (Korean instant noodle), 3 types of Inari Sushi, and some sides.
They use their own soup based so you can adjust the spiciness with the chilli paste provided on the side (not the usual msg sachet) and the broth was good with strong smell of seafood. It wasn’t very spicy and even a 2YO could eat.
The Inari sushi we tried (Abalone and red prawn) were good too (KRW4500) each.
The deep fried seafood was really good too!
Staffs were friendly and helpful. They couldn’t really communicate in English but the picture on the menu could help you with the order.
Overall 5/5 good place to eat while visiting Jeongban Waterfall. And yes you can also get more fresh abalone once you go down to the waterfall (there are always some aunties selling freshly catch seafood near...
Read moreThe owner did ask for review. But, I can assure you the ramyeon is so good. I ordered the clam ramyeon and it was mildly spicy, tho I prefer it to be spicier. But I guess, a lot of people can handle this level of spiciness. They added a lot of clams. It tasted great and complemented the whole dish. If you’re a seafood lover, you’re definitely gonna love this. The price is very reasonable as well considering it’s located in a touristy area. I think I will come...
