My wife and I came to visit this on a whim and were pleasantly surprised by EVERYTHING. The atmosphere of the bar was very reminiscent of San Diego where we’re from and we loved every bit of it. Mr. Nam was amazing and the most welcoming person we have ever met in our entire trip in Korea. He gave us the time and attention and shared so many cool stories, recommendations in drinks, restaurants to visit in Seoul, and the history of the bar. We felt really comfortable, welcomed, and as close to home (California) as we could be. The music was great, lots of 90’s hip hop, disco, or Mr. Nams personal favorite- Tupac. The drinks were really good, we tried the BoomBox Hazy IPA vol.04 and it was really tasty, 5.7% and there was a 2+1 special for it. Great value, great beer, great environment and an amazing host. It’s hard to believe we came here on accident but now we plan on coming as much as we can for the rest of our stay in South Korea. Very foreigner friendly, very comfortable, would come again and recommend...
Read moreLooking for nice craft beer places around Myeongdong, I came across BoomBox. So, I thought I’d give it a try.
Upon entering, the owner was super friendly and spoke great English. It was small but cozy and not too crowded, which was nice. It is mostly middle-aged people however. So if you are looking for a younger crowd, you won’t find it here.
I had the craft IPA, which was quite good. I also tried the nachos with the homemade salsa. They were ok, but I prefer a spicier salsa.
A decent place to come if you are looking to chill and relax at night. They played most older music from the 80s and 90s (no K-pop), but you can recommend music for them to play too.
The owner also kindly gave me a souvenir glass for leaving a nice review, which was...
Read moreGood selection of beers, including a local lager called Squeeze beer which, while not a patch on an Asahi, is beyond superior to the most popular Korean lagers Cass, Hite and Terra.
You're not forced into ordering an appetiser here like most other bars I visited in Seoul that were busier and the beer here is cheaper. You can also request a few songs, which is cool. It was a shame the place was empty on the midweek evening I visited, as it's a bit away from the heart of the action. It deserves more of a crowd. Worth starting your night here at least if you're staying nearby.
The owner is a really nice chap who speaks good English and makes his own beef jerky. I also tried the fried chicken. Both are good and enough to share between two or...
