Extremely disappointed for a 190k omakase and even more for 50k corkage fee.
I went to several omakases in Japan, Korea and many other places. And usually omakase is all about a good service and quality of the fish. So let me start with my review.
Food is fresh, definitely among the best quality fish i had in Korea. Not 100% sure to be the best though.
So we booked at the counter since we love omakase. Since it is a highly recommended place our korean friends made the booking and the day before confirmed that it was all good and over the counter.
The day of dinner they moved us to the private room without prior notice... we insisted but they overbooked their restaurant and why not moving he foreigners first right...
The service was rushed. The corkage was a joke, we brought champagne and they manage to miss the glass twice... seriously... charging 50k and not serving properly...
Nothing against to the sushi itself besides the fact it was rushed, little to no presentation even though i speak basic korean and slightly japanese for food... i felt the wasabi was not as fresh as it is supposed to be when it is done freshly. I even asked the waiter a few times about it... (i hate the flashy green fake wasabi by the way)
And to be clear i went to the other places owned by the same owner and muuuch cheaper, such as Sora (소라) and the service was FAAAAAR better. Staff spoke fluent English, Japanese and Korean, careful, not rushing... i cant possibly understand. And we were the first customers to arrive...
We were not offered any special extra sushi which is an absolute courtesy in any omakase i ever been in...
Read moreAfter trying the omakase at the restaurant 3 times now just over the past few months, I can confidently say I will be visiting again many times over.
Even though it's the same order of "omakase," never has the menu been entirely the same. Chef Kouji puts in much effort to offer something new every month. From appetizer to dessert, there are small to big variations every visit. And the taste is superb with a perfect balance between rich/heavy and refreshing/light flavors.
It isn't cheap, but the quality of the ingredients, course menu, and the experience combined make it worth it. The only real downside is the unfortunate recurrence of being rushed out the door when you're booked for the first time slot for either lunch or dinner. I often find myself forcibly gulping down the last bites of dessert I'd rather take time savoring.
Overall, I highly recommend trying...
Read moreHad lunch sushi omakase at Sushi Koji during my honeymoon trip to Korea and Japan. I have tried several sushi Omakase places in New York where I’m originally from and was curious to see how Sushi from Korea and Japan compared. I was blown away by the quality of the fish and service that we received. Our chef’s name was Mr. Song Min Keun. He was not the head chef, but his attention to detail and friendliness gave us an unforgettable sushi experience. We tried another sushi omakase place in Kyoto Japan a week later and we enjoyed the sushi from Sushi Koji much more. Will definitely recommended Sushi Koji if you are in Seoul. Make sure to ask for a counter seating for full...
