The photos made it seem like an amazing and authentic tacos joint. Sorry to break your hopes and dreams but getting authentic tacos and Mexican food in Korea is not possible. They do try though.
The interior is pretty hip. Loved the color themes, the electro-metallic vibe, and the grafitti-like styling. All good.
The problem is with the food. I am not sure whether Koreans know how to do nachos and guacamole. Everything is over-done. Just layer and layer and layer of random toppings. More is not better here. You definitely need to balance it out.
Korean Galbi tacos was interesting but I don't think the fusion was executed well. It tasted like galbi (due to the meat), but they forgot about everything else. You need plenty of salsa, pico de gallo, sour cream, and the rest to make it a taco. This was just galbi wrapped in tortillas. Again, no Mexican spices whatsoever to the galbi.
Yes, expecting authentic tacos in Korea is not fair. Not many have lived in Mexico nor the customers may prefer actual Mexican food. But then... I hope there's less pretense and more effort put...
Read moreThis restaurant is located inside the Lotte Department store in the b1 level. The mall is huge and we came across this by chance when we were exiting the food shop / gift area. We sat down fairly quickly and there is English menu and English speaking staff.
We ordered a lime margarita with a corona (it actually tasted really good and it was a large size), nachos supreme (what got us in the door), and sweet Korean short rib tacos (delicious).
Not an authentic Mexican restaurant, it’s more of a Korean fusion but delicious nonetheless. Their spicy level on the food is mild at best. The nachos supreme had great fresh taste and we added avocado.
Overall the meal was good and a great place to rest our feet. It was definitely one of our most expensive meals here (and it was just appetizers and a small bite). And it also feels like fast food and located inside the food...
Read moreI had lunch at Vatos and it was great! The tortillas and salsa were complimentary. The salsa was very good and spicy. I started with the frozen guava margarita and honey tequila wings. There were a lot of large ice chunks in the drink which made using the straw annoying but the flavor was great! Not too sweet at all. The wings were amazing and I wouldn’t have minded if that was my entire meal. Crispy and flavorful. The chicken bowl is so so good. It’s got amazing flavors and is the perfect cross between Korean and Mexican food. Would definitely come back if I was going to be...
