I was looking for a place to have a simple lunch near the centre of Avila.

I picked this restaurant simply because no one hassled me trying to get me eat at this establishment. I liked their don't-really-care-if-you-want-to-pick-us-or-not attitude.

I went for the 12€ set lunch course of some sort of a local bean soup, a veal steak and a cheese cake. For beverage option, I went for the red wine.

The soup was very rustic and tasty, and although the veal was nothing special it was perfectly fine and I rather enjoyed it. The cheese cake was very nice, not too sweet, which is the way I like it with most deserts. One pleasant surprise was that when I went for the red wine option, I was expecting just a glass but instead, I got a bottle. The wine was totally acceptable and it was nicely lightly chilled and went well with the veal. A basket of bread was also included in the meal.

The waiter and the waitress were both professional and understanding, considering my near total lack of Spanish language skills.

Thoroughly recommend, if you are a budget...

A wonderful find in Ávila just outside the city walls Set menu €14/head and the food was just marvellous. Ice cold gazpacho with generous helpings of fresh bread was followed by a choice of steak (thin but not overcooked), huevos con patato y chorizo and 3 other dishes. All perfectly cooked, served quickly with charm and a smile. Portions are very generous- make sure you’re hungry!

All the staff here are exactly what you hope to find at a restaurant but very rarely do.

We ate on a Wednesday at 3pm and it was cool and pleasant inside.

I don’t know when we’ll be back in Ávila but there’s really no need to look any further than Don Camilo...

Small restaurant with a familiar atmosphere. Do not expect a luxury place, its decoration could be somewhat better. However, their set menus have competitive prices comparing to other restaurants in the city. We ordered a 18€ set menu and a t-bone steak (19€). The scrambled eggs with asparagus were yummy, and the fried piglet was decent, but it was not the best I have ever tried. On the other hand, the t-bone steak was very rare, as I ordered. Meat was tender and juicy. They suggested me to re-heat the steak when it became cold, and they did it perfectly. Service was OK. A great value for money of you want to try a typical t-bone...

The service was good and the waiter was very kind. We were having trouble finding a good spot to eat at that time given the early lunch before heading to the airport. The food, unfortunately, was not great. We got the shrimp dish, a hamburger, noodles for the kids, and ravioli for the adults. We did not enjoy the food, the hamburger was very undercooked, the shrimp were literally just butter, there was no garlic flavor. As for the fries, those were actually pretty good! So recommend the potatoes.
