Avoid this blatant tourist trap at all cost if you care for your wallet and have some respect for your palate. “Picaro” means conniving swindler in Spanish. This joint seems to be determined on living up to its “name” ! Allow me to elaborate… When we arrived at this place It was already our second round of wining and dining around town , so we decided to go for a black paella to share and a couple glasses of wine to call it a night. Then we were honestly taken by surprise by our waiter’s dedication to inform about details such as the time that it would take to cook our paella, recommending additional tapas for the waiting time, or even suggesting the type of wine that would best pair with the food ( with interestingly seemed to be the most expensive in the menu); but conveniently NEVER bothering to INFORM that we were required to order two servings of paella and therefore ending up being CHARGED TWICE the price shown in the menu for that dish. The worst part was when the dish arrived. It was a massive pile of uncooked rice monstrosity. It was not only bland and devoid on any flavor but also completely LACKING OF CRUST ( the socarrón) which is the most important aspect of...
Read moreCame for a meal here last night after seeing this place with a nice vibe. Yes it was not so busy. The food was ok. Wine selection ok. The attitude from the waiter was awful, we had bread an olive oil to start. The bread was like chewing a rock, but probably correct. The sea food Paella main course was ok,lots of flavor but had many better Paella in the past. Having had 2 bottles of wine ordered we felt rushed to start and finish the second bottle as the staff were packing away tables and chairs around us. We never got offered a sweet or coffee to finish. When nearly finished the waiter slambed down the bill in a wooden box and demanded immediate payment. This place looked so inviting when we had seen it a couple of nights before. The waiter ruined the whole experience. I would not recommend this place to eat with...
Read moreCame here as two British female tourists after reading excellent TripAdvisor reviews. We were seated inside and the decor is so pretty and cosy. We had the bread and olives to start and then had tenderloin steak and fries which was excellent. We asked for medium and it was definitely more rare than medium but wasn’t really an issue - we assumed maybe it’s different in Spain to England. It was very tasty and so tender. The rose wine was good and we were even given a glass of bubbly each, free of charge. Service was great and the whole meal came to 70euros which was such a good price. Would definitely return if back in Alicante and...
