I have just added up 2 more stars from my original post, so in total 4 stars. After a bad experience last summer, I must say that this last winter gave it another chance, and yeah... less crowded, no suffocating heat inside... good national tap beers (Damm was damn good, the Vasque IPA awesome and the Damm Belgian Wit acceptable). Rock from the 90's (grunge, mostly) and friendly staff. The average prices are a bit lower than in multitap craft beer bars. Anyhow, those prices in a city like Alicante are only affordable for tourists, in general, unless you only drink 2 pints weekly.
Here below, my old comment from the summer 2024: It´s worth noting that most of the reviews are from tourists coming from countries which citizens have a lot more purchasing power than Spaniards, which means that the prices are too high for locals, but it´s ok... It´s pretty much like everywhere else in this "dam" city and country. But yeah, tourists can afford it, so The Little Duke is entitled to set those prices. Yeah, why not?
The Guinness beer was quite ok though (obviously, in Ireland is far better), and the Argentinian waiter is quite friendly and responsive. However... I mean, 30ºC outside in the summer, and this place has no air conditioning nor even a single fan. You gotta drink up the pint in less than 15 min, otherwise you will drink half of the pint at room temperature, most of all if the...
Read moreIt was not the Irish bar we expected. We entered this place with friends to enjoy a good quality Irish whiskey... only to find that they have a very small selection of Irish whiskies namely Bushmills Original, and 2 or 3 Jamesons.. that's about it. You then find a lot more selections of the lower quality whiskies coming from Scotland which leaves you no option but to leave the bar and go else where.
This being an Irish bar, they should have the opposite in terms of whiskey selections.. that being the better quality superior whiskey coming from the country invented it i.e Ireland, and less of the lower qualities coming from Scotland which has nothing to do with Irish products being in an Irish bar.
With Irish whiskey being the fastest growing spirit in the world this past 30 years, we find that this place does not serve us well until it can at least have a good few more of the following Irish whiskies available on the shelf to enjoy.
A few to mention e.g Dingle, Silkie, West Cork, Limavady, Drumshanbo, Fercullen, Sailors Home, Shortcross, Green/Yellow /Red Spot's, Clan Colla, Two Stacks, Waterford, Glendalough, MICIL, Method and Madness, Skellig, W. D. O'Connell, Egans, Hyde, Jack Ryan, JJ Corry, Knappogue Castle, Samuel Gelston, The Whistler, Tipperary Homegrown, Velvet Cap, Writer’s Tear’s, Roe & Co, Slane Castle, Killowen, Dunville’s, Clonakilty, Grace...
Read moreFirst visit here and asked a barman for a drinks menu...suprise suprise they don't have one and looking perplexed he helpfully told me I had to ask for prices.... so you have to ask how much any drink is if you want to know unless you're that rich you don't care... And guess what ...it's pricey here hmmm now them not having a drinks menu makes sense...Also a game of pool will set you back €2 a game here, double the price of any other pool table I've come across here in Alicante, why? Who knows but the table is in good condition to be fair but maybe that's just because no-one is playing on it....🤷 I noticed food was advertised on the chalk boards but again with no prices and I daren't ask if they had a food menu for fear of again asking for something so ridiculous, so I decided against trying the food.... Nice decor here though and the pint of beer I had was decent albeit over priced so 2 stars...
