The Great Wall Restaurant — Restaurant in Antigua

Visited this place a couple of times during our stay. The place decor is like any similar Chinese restaurant in Spain with a mural of the Great Wall on one side of the building. Red pillars and latterns and what looks like innovative use of bamboo mattress used for window blinds(?). Staff were very welcoming and attentive which is always a good thing in my books. The place certainly got character even if old fashioned. Definitely needs a reDecorating. But anyway to the food. We had ordered chicken Thai green curry, Thai spring rolls, sweet and sour fish, Kungpo prawns, yuk sung, duck with pancakes and chicken and pepper though I was expecting chicken peppers and black bean sauce, must not serve that on the island. Despite this little hiccup all were very nicely cooked and tasty enough. Can’t complain much about what we ordered tbh. Only criticism I would say is that the rice (long grain) had a bite to them. I hadn't eaten here for quite a while but felt like trying an authentic Chineee Chicken Curry with boiled rice as a snack. In fact, I seemed to get sliced carrots and chicken curry. The rice was just rice and filled the small carryout tray. Maybe it is my imagination but these trays seem to have got smaller. The service was OK, you just sit and wait. The curry was rather disappointing in overall quantity, flavour, amount of protein and ingredients. It was a pretty sad attempt with very little sauce and very little flavour. It certainly wasn't a thick creamy flavorful sauce covering an interesting selection of veg and a nice portion of chicken. It almost seems that since COVID the restaurants have reduced the strength of sauces and done away with any extra veg and protein to help recover lost profits. Beautiful service, all the staff are extremely welcoming. We sat at the window, nice view to people watch. Dining table clean, cutlery too 👌 We ordered starters and main. Wontons (Chinese dumplings), Wonton soup, my partner loved the sweet and sour chicken, egg fried rice and the orange duck was fantastic 😋 (plenty of orange sauce all over) plates very nice & presented very well.
