Puerto Castillo — Attraction in Antigua

I did the jet ski rental and it was awful. I’ve rented jet skis in all my holiday destinations and this was by far the worst. They wanted a passport or ID and I didint have it with me as it was in the hotel, made such a fuss about it, I ended up showing them a photo of it and then they didint even care to see it “all good man you’re on holiday no need to show” so then why make a fuss? This jet ski was awfully slow. Max on board speed was 30kph. I’ve been on jet skis that can almost do 100. Really really slow making it impossible to jump waves or have any bit of fun.

Then there was another couple, always 2 jet skis out and you had to follow an oval course of some buoys one jet ski on one side only or else the jet ski will cut off as it’s controlled by a phone operated on land. These thought they were in a circus and came fully dressed with they hats glasses and even phones, driving incredibly slow. When I told the person in charge that it’s not fair these clowns are driving 5kph taking selfies it was making my 70€ experience awful. Take your selfies beside the bay so others can enjoy maybe? The guy in charge tone was awful and said “what can I do they are having fun” they were Spanish so of course he was going to side with them as he’s probably sick of tourists. How does that make it fair on the money I paid to have my experience and drove your awfully slow jet ski?

Jet skis are great fun with the big waves, but I can't give 5 stars thanks to very mediocre customer service. We arrived 15 minutes prior as instructed and when spending over 130e on 20 minutes of fun, I would at least expect a proper briefing. We were told by a gentleman that keeping distance is very important and that going off course will end up with the jet ski being speed limited, but it was never made clear that getting close to another jet ski will have the same effect. As a result, I got close to my wife's jet ski on two occasions just to tell her I have no power even though I'm staying within the 2 bollards and have no idea what's wrong. As a result, I couldn't move for a good part of the 20 minutes. It was clearly manually controlled, as the power of my wife's jet ski was never cut out. When our time was over, first thing I heard was a scolding from the other gentleman, for "following the lady" before I even said anything. He seemed annoyed by having to do his job and limit my jet ski, but if someone just said "stay away or we will cut your power", this would have never been an issue. I was just clueless as to what was wrong the entire time. A little professionalism and proper communication goes a long way.

Very disappointing and worth avoiding. As a family we visited the hire centre and took out two little electric boats. After a few minutes the boat our two sons were using lost about 90% of its power and was not controllable. The boat soon started to drift outside of the designated area whilst my husband and I tried to use out boat to push it back in without any joy. We tried to signal the guy working at the hire centre who just kept waving his arms at us. Soon a large boat was coming towards out children’s boat so they had to jump into the water and swim away. The man who was working at the hire centre came rushing out on a jet ski and started to abuse us and the children by shouting at us and making it out to be our fault. He then had to tow the broken boat back to the hire centre and made us make our own way back. We asked for a refund which he said NO. We then expressed our anger about the lack of safety which he said was not his problem as he was on his own and a broken motor wasn’t an issue. We asked to speak to a manager and he told us there wasn’t one and told us to just leave. This is a really dangerous hire centre with no one protecting the customers once they have taken your money. Please don’t get caught up like we did as I can see someone loosing a life...
