14 De La Rosa — Restaurant in Barcelona

This was my favorite bar on my short stay in Barcelona. I tend to go for a drink earlier in the evening, so I got a chance to talk with the bartender/owner, Dean, and his assistant Benny. Both really nice guys. Dean has an encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails/liquors and has put together some interesting cocktails. I had something with a whisky and chai infused vermouth that was this nice, subtle highball. They also have a twist on a gimlet that substitutes a leftover champagne simple syrup for the more gross Rose's lime. This bar is easily one of the best I’ve ever visited, and has consistently stayed in my top 3 bars, not only in Barcelona or in Spain, but globally.

Travelling consultant here, so I tried many cocktail bars around the world with my colleagues. I always try to test the bartenders with one of the basics first, such as whisky sour or espresso martini, so I can decide whether I want to spend more money there. The amaretto sour was not on point, unfortunately. First of all it lacked the mandatory berry on a stick. Secondly, they serve the drink in a too steep glass, which makes the foam stick to the sides instead of being drinkable. A shame, as this is quite basic.
