Seated with the misses. When I asked what the waiter recommended I try, at what seems to be a bar and tapas spot, he responded with "I don't know, I don't drink." I didn't let it bother me, as I figured it was just probably the defensive reaction of a former addict or alcoholic that has the Sisyphean struggle of earning a meager wage at a bar, after being alienated and estranged from any former relative, spouse, and offspring... We had a few tapas, all bland and passable, then I felt something crawling up my leg. When I looked down, a large cockroach started running towards the bar. For some inexplicable reason, this made me lose me appetite and I asked for the check. Swiftly afterwards I asked the waiter to cancel my tapas, but he said it was 'being made' right before I asked to cancel the order. I swallowed my pride and promptly asked for the check. Right before paying I respectfully informed the staff I was in a hurry to leave because I lost my appetite due to the roach crawling on my leg and the large red rash it left on the back of my calve. The waiter then offered his condolences, explained that Barcelona is full of 'em. I thanked him for the vibrant experience and parted ways. I am unfortunately not used to roaches crawling on me, but am also curious - is it rare to have roaches crawl on you in Barcelona, or was I just at the wrong place at...
Read moreDecided to try Can Condina for lunch on a Tuesday. Didn't get busy till around 1:15pm. Server was friendly and spoke English well. Interesting choice of house music.
Daily weekday lunch special (12,90€) gets you a starter, main course, drink and dessert/coffee. Would have liked to try the pork cheek and pig trotter from the regular menu.
2x Menú del dia (12,90€) - gazpacho was light. Lentils with chorizo was good, slightly salty. Breaded chicken with fries and tartar sauce was decent. Seabass with tomatoes was a whole fish; light on the seasoning but homey. For dessert, melon was refreshing, panna cotta nothing special. Vermut casa mariol - normally, a glass is 3,10€. Tasty olive was included. Cava (3,00€) - our waiter never mentioned the extra charge until the bill came.
Simple, wholesome...
Read moreLittle restaurant but great local joint for drinks and Tapas. Drinks are reasonably priced, beer is on the cheaper side, and Tapas is very good. Tried the patatas bravas, the croquettes and the caramelized onion and sausage pizza (more like a small flatbread). The croquettes variety was one of each flavor and it was great to try each one. The patatas were plentiful. While the pizza was small, they piled it with onions and sausage and actually glad it was small so that we didn't over eat. Noise can get loud for a small place but we could still talk. Good for a night out for two, a few friends to hang out or just get some Tapas. Definitely a local joint and glad...
