Workshops I was surprised by how much I learnt in just 4 days.
SING YOUR SONG - Ella and Joanne Top quality initiation into what it means to improvise musically - solo, duets, trios, choruses.
AND ALL THAT SNAZZ – Ali James Beyond words and music on stage there is movement and here it was led by a master of musical improv. (mistress doesn’t sound right, sorry PC friends)
INTRO TO SOUND PAINTING – Omar Argentino An astounding primer in a most fascinating musical theater format.
Shows COMMISERATION CABARET Your whines and grips interpreted in ballads and rhapsodies. Superb!
IMPRO BIG BAND Directed improvisation, three short acts. Deeply moving.
THE BIG IMPROVISED MUSICAL Professional, entertaining, engaging and very enjoyable!
DOUZE POINTS: THE IMPROVISED EUROVISION JOURNEY Very good comedy with two very contrasting characters. Bravo!
VOICE NOTES The execution was perfect. Perfect? No, beyond perfect. I never thought improv could be as good as that. Now I think improv can’t get much better than that. It felt like a cabaret that had been rehearsed a month ahead by consummate performers. I understand the framework was the brainchild of Joe Samuel, kudos to you Joe. I can see it soaring far above the beaten path on any stage in the world. Breathtaking, really!
And yes the organisation was very good, the hospitality was warm and the opportunity to connect and develop friendships was hearty and open for...
Read moreOne year ago I wrote : “words can't even begin to describe....be prepared to cry with laughter”
After one year of coursework, shows and drop in classes I can’t express how I’ve evolved, not just as an improv actor but also in my life. Through my teachers Ella and Kiva, Improv has taught me many things but most importantly not to be afraid of making mistakes, on the contrary to embrace them wholeheartedly. That has affected my whole way of life, and reduced my constant anxiety over the future. What’s more improv acting classes have allowed me to be aware of the opportunities to laugh and be silly with friends and family.
The teachers at BIG are brilliant teachers and so supportive. They are master performers and even so they make one feel at ease in their class no matter the level.
As a business owner I know how draining it can be to keep a company afloat and so I commend Ella and Kiva even more so for keeping a cool head through everything they do whilst managing to keep smiling through it all. I mean what can’t they do? They create curriculums and teach, they act, they create original improv formats, they produce night after night of events, they manage a beautiful space, they bring joy to people every day : Kiva and Ella are real life super hero’s.
BIG thumbs up and ❤️ for being a...
Read moreAbsolutely love Big! A few months ago, I joined a Sunday workshop and had so much fun! I realized it had been a while since I truly laughed out loud — and at Big, that joy comes so easily. Since then, I’ve been coming weekly! I’ve taken two courses, joined several Jams and Shows, attended more Sunday workshops, and I’m already looking forward to the next courses.
Big has genuinely become my second home. It lifts my mood every single time! I already consider myself a happy person, but these classes take my happiness to another level.
Beyond the joy and connection, I also want to highlight how well-run the entire operation is. The team does an incredible job: – The teachers have contagious energy. – The school’s values are clear and embodied in everything they do. – The atmosphere is inclusive, respectful, and welcoming. – The space is beautiful and well-maintained — from the classrooms to the clean bathrooms. – The booking system works smoothly. – Even the bar service is a lovely bonus!
Honestly, I’m quite a picky person, and I only have great things to say about Big. 10 out of 10. Congrats to the entire team — you're doing something truly special. I'm excited to dive deeper into the community, keep learning, and...
