Came upon this location because we were trying to get out of the crowds right around Segrada Familia and we are so happy we did. At the end of the road right next to the historic (and gorgeous) hospital grounds, we were greeted by Issac at the door and he immediately made us feel welcome and excited for our Tapas dinner. I rarely find a server in the US and abroad that connects to their patrons not because they have to, but they are just natural and building a great bond with their diners. He was SO knowledgeable and he and his fellow staff curated a tapas dinner based on our tastes and wants. It was FANTASTIC and highly personalized service.
We were sat underneath the giant awnings in the large plaza/walkway in the middle of two tiny roads facing the beautiful historic hospital building. It was so refreshing to not have to sit in a loud restaurant and have a view!
The food is what I am sure you are wanting to know about... it was DELICIOUS! The potatoes and house-made aioli seems like a pass, but the aioli was so flavorful and not too strong to overpower the garlic roasted tomatoes. The Catalonian round breads stuffed with cheese and greens was such a nice treat and the Queso fundido or the jamon are not to miss for a starter. Even the simple Catalonian bread with tomato was well-balanced and refreshing.
The seafood and mixed paella were so robust in spice and flavor. My favorite part was when Issac let us know to scrape the little bits of stuck rice on the pan as that is a desirable part for many locals and have always "fought over it since children". He was right, all the flavors jam packed into the tiny bite.
Lastly, the charcoal smoked meats are ridiculously good! We had the Sausage with white beans. The sausage was full of herbs and the smoke was just right. The white beans were so good with a light crispy texture that we asked for a special order of additional white beans on the side. (who knew!) The Argentinean cut was thin and perfect to share. Don't be afraid to "Pick it up and chew around the bone" as Issac shared, that is where much of the flavor is.
Dessert? Brownie for sure! If you like flan, I found the dulce sauce refreshingly balanced between salty and sweet instead of just a sugar bomb of caramel.
The wine menu and iconic cocktail menu had refreshing sangria, Mojito Fresa (strawberry) and other bold reds, whites, rose, and cavas at fantastic prices. Bottle of a perfect Roble was just 16 Euro (Usually around $59 at a US restaurant!)
The best part was when it was all over, we felt like Issac had become the 7th member of out family/ friend group. There is nothing more enjoyable to me when I am on vacation then connecting with someone who lives the culture of the destination, everyday. We appreciated his expertise, willingness to answer all questions, joke along with us, understand our crazy sarcasm, and deliver the best meal many of us have had in a long time. We cannot wait to go back and enjoy this restaurant again. Ramon was the longtime owner and his daughter still works at this location. I hope he sees this and knows that his restaurant is in great hands and creates a one of a kind experience that this traveler finds only once in a blue moon. Thank you to Issac, Ramon and the rest of the staff for this memorable dinner!

Read moreUPDATED - DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!! BAD AND EXPENSIVE
We ate there today and it was a MISTAKE. We ate here on December 16th. Malo y Caro por ser tan mediocre. My son ate an undercooked burger and he felt sick the next day!!!
The Menu tricks you into thinking it's not a tourist trap. The service was OK, but the FOOD IS VERY POOR and overcooked. The patatas a la Brasa is 1 small potato with a small amount of aioli. The chicken thighs (muslo) were very small and the patatas fritas are mediocre. My Butifarra sausage was OK. My son's hamburger 'De Ternera" looked like a frozen burger. MY SON WAS SICK THE NEXT DAY FROM EATING THIS BURGER. My wife's Calamari were overcooked and a VERY BAD.
Dentro de todo, los tios saben que nunca vas a volver.
Don't eat eat here/ La Comida Es Mediocre..MISTAKE! ERROR!! ...
Read moreOverall great food and friendly service. The bombas were excellent! However, something is a bit sketchy with their prices. What is listed on the menu is not actually what comes up on the bill...for example, the Bombas were listed as 6.95€, but we were charged 7.10€. The Flan Casa was listed as 3.95€, but on the bill it was 4.35€. 1.95€ Tostada showed up as 2.15€. This happened for every single item. These differences were all BEFORE the 10% IVA was added to the base. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice this until after...
