Extremely Disappointing Experience

I recently dined at Carballeira Restaurant in Barcelona, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.

Firstly, the service was atrocious. The staff were inattentive and seemed uninterested in providing even basic levels of customer service. We had to flag down our waiter multiple times just to place our order and get our drinks refilled.

The food itself was another major letdown. Given the reputation and prices, I expected a high-quality meal, but what we received was far from that. The seafood paella was overcooked and bland, with rubbery seafood that tasted far from fresh. To our dismay, we even found that the shrimps were clearly frozen, not fresh. When we complained about this, the staff acted as if it was business as usual and completely ignored our concerns.

To make matters worse, the ambiance was ruined by a loud, chaotic environment. There seemed to be no effort to control the noise level, making it difficult to have a conversation at our table.

Overall, Carballeira Restaurant failed to meet even the most basic expectations. With poor service, subpar food, and an unpleasant dining atmosphere, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Save your money and...

They served us bread, which was black burned, and potatoes , which were fried probably several times. When I asked to change the bread , the manager said, that he will bring me new, but I must eat it all !!!!!! And the potatoes were transparent from being fried several times. And the manager was very angry and brought me freshly fried and said to my friend, that I'm a complicated woman, and that he doesn't recommend my friend to go out with me. It was a really disgusting experience. And to finish the dinner, I ordered strawberries with ice cream and some strawberries were brown😕. Not fresh. To bad experience for such a high price . Very unpolite manager ( I don't think he was waiter, because several time came waiter and he was nice ). It was some months ago, but I decided to publish, so next time women don't choose this restaurant , that can ruin your date . As the manager made machist comments against me. Only because I can't eat black burned bread and super dry, several time...

Biggest disappointment of a meal our whole trip in Spain. Suggested by our hotel and given the high rating, went to eat there. No reservation needed as they were not that busy. That should have told me something. Waiter spoke little to no English so huge communication gap. Wanted fresh seafood so ordered off their “specials” menu. Had the clams which were tasty, but so tiny you barely got any meat. They had a albacore tuna so thought I would try that but instead of being sashimi grade tuna or something super fresh, it was a cooked fish that was well done and then pickled in Al de type of vinegar. It was disgusting. We got their paella for two which basically was rice with cuttlefish bits chopped up in it and came with one prawn, one shrimp, and 2 clams for each person. That’s it - and it was 50€. Spent over 120€ and left hungry. I do not recommend this place.

The seafood was fresh and prepared with passion. I had a few starters and then wanted them for the main course to add a few carabineros rojos to the paella. After a few minutes the chef cook showed up and told me that he was sorry, but it would be impossible for him to throw them into the paella as they are so delicate and rare that it would be an outrageous act to do so. He asked me if he could just prepare them in a different way and I told him, that I would like to have them the same way he would eat them. I had a feast. He just grilled them for a few seconds to add a little smoky taste to it and then covered them with raw sea salt. I will never eat them in a different way again! If you're interested in their passion for food they will give you their hearts! I can't wait, to get back to the Carballeira!

Nothing kills an experience for me more than bad service. I am more forgiving of bad food. And I have to seriously applaud Carballeira Restaurant for their outstanding service and attention. We walked in for lunch without reservations and were immediately seated. Service was super quick. The servers were amazingly friendly and helpful. They all worked together as a team and were extremely attentive. The food was impeccably fresh and well seasoned. We ordered more food than usual. Escargot, crispy cod, lamb shoulder, crab, and cheesecake along with some cocktails. Everything we ate was delicious and well presented, cocktails were well made. Highly recommend. Will definitely visit again.
