What sets this hotel apart is the building is from the 1800's yet modernized nicely inside. We had room 609 which was on the highest floor (the 6th) and had a wonderful balcony with an umbrella, table, and chairs and a great view of the historic buildings across the street. Tip: I definitely recommend pre-ordering the 10 Euro or $10 bottle of red wine. It was a full size Portell Cabernet Sauvignon bottle and tasted fine. We asked the front desk to have it on our first night, and it was delivered upstairs with glasses, and corkscrew promptly. Sitting on our balcony and enjoying the wine was a highlight for our trip. The room included a desk and stool and one luggage rack. Some of my pictures includes the gorgeous building across the street that you can see from the balcony with the Grecian urn motif and stone balconies and cupola on top.
This was the first hotel room I have stayed in which did not have a box of tissues. It had a little pack of 5 or 6 nice size tissues that came with other things like a toothbrush and toothpaste.
Tip: Also, you need to ask at the front desk or call later for the key to your safe. It is not a combination safe but requires a key that if you lose it will cost 50 Euros.
The hotel is in a really good, convenient location for walking to the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, Barcelona Cathedral, the Bishop's Walk, MUHBA Roman Temple, Santa Maria Church and was about a 45 minute or 1.8 mile walk to Sagrada Familia landmark church and 27 minute walk or 1.2 mile walk to Casa Battlo, one of Gaudi's houses.
There is construction going on in the street right in front of the hotel. We could hear the noise even though they were not working in front of the hotel. It did not both our sleep or our time on the balcony in the evening.
We got the breakfast included which was a reasonable price and had plenty of items to choose from. There was a hot chocolate fountain which looked very cool, but had a bit of a syrupy flavor.
If you are interested in an almost Michelin-star level dining experience, make reservations at L'Antiquari Gastronòmic which has a tasting menu and is a 6 min or 0.2 miles away. There were some non-standard items like horse and pig's cartilage ear but even those items were tasty and the rest even more so. If you get there before your reservation time, you can enjoy a sangria or drink out in the courtyard,...
Read moreWalking into the hotel itself the reception is lovely and filled with natural light, and smells amazing! The reception has these little sweets on the reception desk that are gorgeous - heart shaped and cherry flavour! |The team on the reception were all very friendly and customer-centric. We managed to get into our room despite it being early, and we had twin beds as requested.|The room was lovely, 3 large windows, 3 layers of curtains (a black out layer, a sheer layer, and then the actual curtain layer. The beds were comfy, the pillows fluffy, and the shower was powerful and hot. You do get a combined shampoo/shower gel in the shower in case you're wondering if you need to take your own. There is also little packs with toothbrushes in and cotton wool pads - really excellent. |We didn't pre-pay the breakfast but we did go for in on mostly of the days and it really is delicious and varied. There are hot breakfast items like sausages, fried eggs, beans and tortillas, and there are cake options such as a goegrous light almond cake, very good fresh croissants and pastries, parmiers dipped in chocolate, and areas for toast. The juices were all delicious also - my favourite was the tropical flavour.|The hotel's location was really fantastic. We were attending the spanish GP and walked each day to Estacio del nord. A very do-able walk from the hotel and nearby The Rambles and if you go from the hotel and along, and turn left, up there are lots of lovely streets, with a square. We ate tapas there most nights out in the perfect balmy weather, and there was often acrobats entertaining the guests. |Barcelona also does fantastic ice cream and sweet treats. Across the road from the hotel, turn right, then right again there is a little street with shop called 'Cake' - highly...
Read moreWhen we checked into our hotel we were given a very nice room with a separate sitting room, walk-in closet, and bathroom with ample counter space. However the room was stuffy and the air conditioning wasn't working. Maintenance arrived quickly and fixed it. That night I realized that the air conditioner wouldn't turn off. In the morning the power went out in our room. The manager knocked on our door and told us that she would move us to another room that was exactly the same room that we were in. There was absolutely no apology for the inconvenience. Ugh, I had to pack up everything, move to another room, only to find out that the room was not the same! It was nothing like the room we had just left and was in need of a remodel. I didn't want to call the manager and switch to another room because we had a tour scheduled and didn't want to deal with the hassle. We went and talked to the same manager about making reservations at Park Guell. She told us that we didn't need reservations, that the park is open to the public and that the reservations were only for the tour. We taxied over to the park only to find out that since 2020 everyone needs to make a reservation to enter the park. Tickets were sold out, ugh! We mentioned that to the reception desk, saying that the employees might need to be updated with that information. We received a very cold response. We were just trying to help. If we didn't have these issues I would have given the hotel 5 stars. We just felt that the issue of changing rooms was handled badly. The location can't be beat and the view of the Cathedral from the rooftop...
