Casa Mariol — Restaurant in Barcelona

Food and service was absolutely amazing. This is a small locally owned business, and the owner served us himself. As we had limited experience with the various tapas, the owner became an invaluable source of recommendations and knowledge of the various wines/vermouths/sparkling wines. The Iberian ham and Iberian sausage that were recommended to us was also delicious. The artichoke tapas was probably the best artichoke I've ever had in my life. For 9.50EUR, you could purchase 3 drinks and 3 tapas; unbeatable prices for top notch tapas.

To top it all off: at the end of our visit, I unknowingly left one of my electronic devices there. I went back 2 days later, not sure if I had left my item there - the moment I came in, the owner recognized me and immediately produced my item, which he had kept safe and returned to me. Great bar by the winery Casa Mariol whose wines from the mountains north of Tarragona (D.O. Terra Alta), vermouths & liqueurs are widely available here. We tried a range of their crianzas which were similar but well balanced with plenty of fruit. Service was great too and we enjoy a tapa of fresh, creamy cheese in olive oil. Compared with many wine bars in the vicinity it was good value for money and the atmosphere was pleasant too. I noted they had an outdoor street side terrace but it was a bit cold there at night. Best vermouth in Barcelona if you like the not too sweet and more bitter kind. The food is amazing! Even the most basic things like olives or artichokes are better than your average tapas food. Everything is very simplistic, nothing flashy. We left with a bottle of their vermouth, artichokes and marinated olives :) The owner is extremely nice. It’s a no brainer if you’re in Barcelona.
