Chao Yue — Restaurant in Barcelona

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have good Chinese foods in Barcelona. You know it’s a good place when you see many Mandarin speaking guests eating here. I think the cooking style is Cantonese. The overall cooking quality and taste are good. I ordered the sweet and sour pork and it came out the way I expected. The pork pieces were slightly coated with flour and therefore maintained their crispness until the last bite. The stir fried cai xin was generous and the fried rice was flavourful. The rice was slightly dark due to the dark sauce, which may be a minus point. Another thing is the wonton soup was bland, but the wontons were tasty and homemade. When you enter are you meet with a warm and nice feeling. The staff is extremely nice and provide great service. You get a smile from start to end. The food is also very good, the meat is soft with much taste and flavor. You get soup as a traditional starter, followed up with the main course you order, and is ended with some nice fruit. They serve traditional Chinese food that haven't been tampered with. If you wish to order some of the bigger meals like one of the big sea dishes you need to preorder before you visit so they can have everything ready. Chao Yue es un restaurante cantonés ubicado en la calle Aragón, cerca de la tienda Trek y de la mejor calle peatonal de la ciudad, Consell de Cent. Al entrar, te encontrarás con un pasillo que se abre al fondo en una sala más amplia. La decoración, sin embargo, podría mejorar: repintar paredes, quitar las guirnaldas de Navidad que aún cuelgan, reparar la cafetera y el lavabo de hombres, así como el secador de manos, y cambiar el tono azul de los neones del techo por una mejor iluminación, preferentemente en este orden, ya que si mejoran la iluminación primero, el efecto podría ser contraproducente.

En cuanto al idioma, solo un joven camarero habla castellano, lo cual puede dificultar un poco la comunicación si no hablas cantonés. El restaurante parece ser familiar, y a menudo atrae a una clientela asiática, lo cual es un buen indicio de la autenticidad de la comida. Las raciones son generosas y la comida es buena. Nosotros pedimos cerdo agridulce, que tiene un ligero toque anisado que me recuerda al embutido murciano, pasta de arroz con gambas, un plato típico cantonés que seguro os gustará, dos raciones de empanadillas a la plancha (8 unidades por ración), que a mi hijo le encantan y a mí me parecen correctas, y tallarines con salsa de ternera.

Un detalle interesante es que la sopa, el arroz, la fruta y el postre son gratis. Sin embargo, el restaurante no ofrece vino por copas y los vasos son pequeños, además de que la cafetera no funciona. A pesar de estos inconvenientes, he repetido varias veces porque es un local tranquilo, frecuentado por nativos, y la relación calidad-precio es más que correcta.

En resumen, Chao Yue es un buen lugar para disfrutar de auténtica comida cantonesa en Barcelona, especialmente si buscas un restaurante con buena comida y generosas porciones. Con algunas mejoras en la decoración y el mantenimiento, podría convertirse en un lugar aún...
