Kumo Japanese Pancakes — Restaurant in Barcelona

We went today after seeing this place online hoping it wasn’t a tik tok / ig trap and it was indeed a trap.. The amount of good reviews they have is because they deduct money from your bill if you leave them a good review btw..

The pancakes, nothing that you can’t make at home, mine were raw in the middle and they deflate after 1 minute off the heat..

They have a whiteboard outside saying they only have sweet pancakes, what do I assume? That they don’t have salty pancakes, but the reality is that they give you a menu with the pancakes and with other non pancakes options and they fail to mention that they ONLY serve sweet pancakes, nothing else, no toasts no nothing, which is fine but why is it in the menuuu at all? Or why don’t you explain that when you give the menu to the customer?

Customer service, bad.. the girl opens the door at 10am sharp and sees a line of people waiting to come in and doesn’t say anything, not even good morning and the rest of the service just gives weird vibes..

Coffees, they’re a breakfast / brunch place and they don’t know how to make a cappuccino and the coffee tasted like the free coffee companies give your when you buy the restaurant expresso machine, if you’re selling breakfast I think coffee is an important thing staff should be trained to make and also maybe get better product?

Atmosphere just weird, they had music in the “bar” part and different music in the kitchen that you could hear from the seating area, which becomes noise unfortunately..

Anyways, huge disappointment! Spend your money and time somewhere else for the...

The pancakes were light and fluffy like eating a cloud. Great flavor. That being said the service was so bad it completely negated how good the food was. Waited 30 mins!!! Before someone came over to take our order. It’s not like the wait staff was running all over the place they lacked any sort of prioritizing. Instead of getting people’s order that were waiting they would choose to clean a dirty table first.

Ordered two sets of pancakes and two cold brew coffees. The food arrived and still we didn’t have our coffees. I had to ask for them after getting the food which took at least another 5 mins before they arrived. we sat there waiting with empty plates for another 30 mins making direct eye contact with the two waiters who could care less. We could have walked out and they wouldn’t have noticed. I finally got so sick of waiting got up and walked over to where they were standing drying dishes instead prioritizing yet again and said can I please pay?!

Another thing to note is a clear influencer came in, set up his tripod and started filming. He had two sets of pancakes and a drink all delivered in under 10 mins ( yes I tracked it). Absolutely terrible terrible service from the blond boy and the brown haired boy with a shaved side who both lacked any sort of multitasking. Would NOT recommend regardless of How good the food is. Apparently you have to be a tik tok influencer to get good service. This was hands down the worst experience in Spain we...

I'm gonna be yapping for a while if you want to read an honest review of this place.

Fluffy pancakes were good and fluffy like the name of the restaurant indicates (雲「くも」= Cloud ☁️). However, you have to eat them with fruit and jam, otherwise you are just eating plain dry pancakes with only toppings like cocoa/matcha powder. Overall, decent, but not mind-blowing other than the texture which is something I haven't seen before in any other cafeteria.

Service was okay. However, the biggest issue here was the waiting time. We arrived at 09:50, ten minutes earlier before the opening of the cafeteria, and the line was huge (social media to blame here). Once they started opening, they put a sign outside saying the waiting line was at most 30 minutes approximately. Needless to say, we waited 45 minutes... If you are going to come to this place, you better get here at 09:30 at least, otherwise, you will end up in the middle or end of the line and wait between 45 minutes - 1 hour and a half.

In conclusion, waiting that much time to eat fluffy pancakes and a special drink (mocha drink if you look up the menu), it's not worth it. If you end up being the first in line, congratulations. Otherwise, forget it and go to Billy Brunch or another place nearby, which are closer and they offer more menu variety in the morning (Kumo offered only sweet pancakes).
