Needless to say that the ice cream here is possibly the best in Barcelona. However, as the store has become more and more popular and successful, the length of the queue now seems to be inversely proportional to the quality of the service and the manners of their staff (at the Enric Granados store), the longer the queue the worse is the way their staff treat the customers. No more smiling faces, no more chit chat and telling us about the new flavors, ingredients, recipes.
I had not minded in the past waiting in line to get my ice cream however, after last night (28 August 2021) I do not expect coming back. A very rude lady told me and my friend while standing in line that they had closed and no ice cream was going to be sold to us. It was 23:50 and according to this website and Trip Advisor (both sites which the owner edits and the platform of which it regularly and actively uses judging by the many replies and updates there are to be found) the store closes at 00:30. The lady argued, very rudely and with bad manners that neither she nor the owners control the content of Google and Trip Advisor. I explained that it was not our fault the information provided to the public was wrong and that surely they would understand and sell us, loyal customers an ice cream. She bluntly said "no".
We had taken a taxi solely to come get an ice cream there after a very nice dinner. It’s unfortunate and not fair to be treated like that.
Although I am not planning to come back after this bad experience, I recommend that the closing time in the publicly available information be changed and updated and that, should it be the case that the store closes at 00:30 but the last order is taken at midnight, that such piece of information is disclosed and clarified to avoid this unfair situation (which I witnessed happened to at least 3 more unhappy...
Read moreOn August 24, at approximately 3:00 PM, three of us visited the store located at Carrer d'Enric Granados, 15, L'Eixample, 08007 Barcelona. The staff present included one male employee and two female employees (one blonde and one with black hair).
We ordered two affogatos, one Americano, and one espresso. When about two-thirds of one affogato had been consumed, we discovered a small piece of plastic inside the ice cream. One of my friends was injured when the plastic shard pricked her gum, and she had to remove the piece from her mouth. (We have photographic evidence of this.)
She presented the plastic fragment to the staff and explained that it had come from the ice cream. Instead of offering an apology, they merely asked if we wanted a replacement. Shortly after, the male employee brought out another affogato—again without any apology or explanation.
While we were seated outside, the female employee with black hair repeatedly glared at us (for more than 5 seconds each time, on at least six occasions). When my friend looked back, she even shook her head disapprovingly.
I found the staff’s attitude far worse than the unpleasant experience of finding a foreign object—whether plastic or possibly a fingernail—in the ice cream. What I expected was an apology and an explanation of what this foreign substance was, not to be treated with contempt and handed another coffee as though that would resolve the issue. We did not even touch the replacement.
Your staff clearly require proper training on how to handle such serious incidents. I will be submitting a formal report with photographs to the Agència Catalana de Seguretat Alimentària (ACSA), Agencia Española de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrición (AESAN) and Oficina Municipal de Información al...
Read moreFor me, summer in Europe always means gelato and in Barcelona, DelaCrem, is one of the best! Owner Massimo Pignata comes from Piedmont, Italy and his gelato is made the way it's supposed to be - fresh daily from seasonal, 100% natural and organic ingredients that were picked from the market just hours earlier. There's only about a dozen or so of these rotating seasonal flavours but each flavour is done right and held in temperature controlled covered containers at about -13°C ensuring the perfect consistency: that point between firm but not hard; and soft but not meltingly so. Be careful though and eat it quickly though! It was about 25 degrees Celsius when I went and less than a minute after leaving the store, the gelato was already starting to melt.
I decided to get a small cone (only 2.50€) and chose Leche Merengada and Pistachio for my flavours. The Pistachio was delicious: nutty and creamy with the slightest salty aftertaste. The Leche Merengada is a Catalan flavor with lemon, cinnamon and cream which tastes almost like a horchata in gelato form. Both were wonderful and a perfect way to beat the heat. And to make it even better, the staff were nice enough to top the Leche Merengada with even more cinnamon - great customer service. Definitely worth the walk into...
