I would never return to this restaurant. The food was foul and offensive to our palate. On a trip to several cities in Europe, with Barcelona at the tail end, Flamant was not only the worst dining experience, but the lowest point of the entire trip.
Starters--
The Andalusian squid was severely overcooked yet somehow made it to the table cold, with breading that failed to stick to the meat.
The other starter we ate was sold to us as croquettes, but ended up being fried balls of a flavorless mash that was a waste of (presumably) good food.
Mains--
The roasted chicken with prawns was another incredibly disappointing dish. Chicken was overcooked and not especially carefully prepared. The sauce it was served with was passable, maybe the only thing in the entire meal worth eating.
Dessert--
The catalan cream was the most disappointing, but thematically appropriate, way to finish out an already severely underwhelming meal. The texture was like a runny pudding, with grittiness in the custard itself. The flavors were too much sugar, too much cornstarch, burnt sugar, and very little else. And the burnt sugar topping didn't even cover the entire dish! It appears as if a little was sprinkled in the center of a large bowl and torched, rather than spread over the top of the entire dish. Just poor showing.
Sponge with Greek Yogurt was false advertising for us. We were not told on arrival, or on ordering, or at any point during dinner, that there was no cake available for the dessert. It was as the waitstaff was serving the messiest, child-like attempt at a dessert to our table that we were informed there was no cake. Honestly, it looked as if someone had sprayed some whipped cream in a martini glass and sprinkled fruit into it. Embarrassing for a professional restaurant to decide that is what it will serve to its guests.
Overall, this experience only warrants 2 stars because the waitstaff were generally friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Unfortunately, restaurants should serve good food, and Flamant failed to do so. There are so many other delicious spots in Barcelona--I pity the poor fool who finds themselves...
Read moreHaving been regular patrons at Flamant for several seasons and previously recommending it to visiting friends, our recent experience unfortunately marked a significant decline in quality and service.
We visited for the Chef's Menu, choosing the entrecôte option. The issues began immediately:
Food Quality: The beef served was clearly not entrecôte, despite the menu description While properly cooked, the meat had a grainy texture instead of the characteristic marbled, fibrous texture of entrecôte When questioned, staff insisted this was their standard entrecôte for the past 2.5 years
Service Issues: Wine service was inadequate - the included half-bottle per person was served reluctantly, with staff only refilling individual glasses upon request Basic table necessities (salt, pepper) had to be repeatedly requested When the starter was cleared, condiments weren't replaced for the main course Staff were defensive rather than helpful when issues were raised
Management Response: When called to our table, the manager offered to replace just one of our three disputed dishes The replacement was something we hadn't ordered and arrived so late it disrupted the group dining experience Their "compensation" offer was merely charging us individually for the items we didn't dispute, rather than the set menu price In a follow-up call, management claimed they "never lie to guests" but admitted their supplier sometimes substitutes meats without notice
The restaurant, once consistently full and requiring reservations, was notably empty during our visit - a telling sign of declining standards. After this disappointing experience, particularly given management's poor handling of our concerns, we won't be returning.
What's most concerning is not just the food quality issues, but the staff's unwillingness to acknowledge obvious mistakes and the inadequate attempt at resolution. This suggests serious management problems that go beyond a single...
Read moreElegant restaurant with many tables and modern decoration. It is well located and has a very pleasant atmosphere. I've been here twice, once for lunch (menú del día) and once for dinner (a la carta). They offer a daily menu (only at lunchtime and I believe weekends excluded) for 13'95€ which is totally worth it (you get two dishes, dessert and bread + drink). We ordered the fussili and the salomorejo, the chicken and the sponge cake with mango and pineapple. If you get the chance definitely order the fussili and the sponge cake as a dessert (and maybe skip the chicken, since it was a bit tasteless). 4/5 stars If you go at night they don't offer the daily menu, so you choose from all the dishes they have (which I found they didn't have a wide variety of dishes). The portions are rather small so with one main dish you might find it's not enough. Worth mentioning the starters/to share because they were delicious (we had the cod fritters, the ox-tail gyozas and the two types of croquettes). 3/5 stars Both times the service was rather slow despite the restaurant being half empty.
I would come again for their daily menu (great food for a good price) but not when they...
