"I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the recent experience a customer had at your establishment/service.
On September 24th, my friend Paul from California, along with his partner and my cousin Mia Broke, whom I had previously recommended to visit your restaurant, decided to have dinner at your establishment during the evening of September 24th. After a few minutes of reviewing the menu and taking their seats at your restaurant, my friend decided to place their order. It was at that moment that the waiter approached their table.
To my surprise, the waiter responded that they couldn't assist in Spanish, as they "only spoke Catalan." I assume that this generates a sense of power in someone who doesn't dare say this to a local customer who speaks Spanish but does with a foreign customer who has made the effort to learn Spanish. This response seemed utterly absurd to me since in Barcelona, everyone speaks Catalan and Spanish.
Not only is this unprofessional treatment, but it also violates the fundamental principles of equality and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity that should prevail in any part of Catalonia. I deeply value the richness of our culture and the Catalan language. However, this should not be used as an excuse to discriminate against those who do not speak the language and make an effort to learn Spanish. Diversity is one of our greatest assets, and it is essential that all people who visit or live in Catalonia are treated with respect and kindness, regardless of the language they speak.
I earnestly request that you take immediate measures to correct this situation and train your staff in serving customers who speak different languages, especially Spanish, which is widely spoken worldwide and in Catalonia. I have already spoken with a supervisor who, in a condescending tone, informed me that he spoke 6 languages (I assume Spanish was not one of them).
Furthermore, I hope that you will extend an apology to my friend for the inappropriate treatment he received during his visit. As a business, it is important that you reflect the values of inclusion and respect for all individuals.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and trust that you will take the necessary steps to prevent situations like this from happening in the future. I hope that we can continue to enjoy the services of your restaurant in an inclusive and friendly manner.
I look forward to your response and concrete actions regarding this...
Read moreThis restaurant is an authentic, local spot in Barcelona that is known for their infamous 'Bocadillo antxon.' As soon as you get to the restaurant, you can tell that this spot doesn't attract tourists. The ambience gives off the vibes of a local gem. Our waiter George also made our experience a lot more fun! He was interested in getting to know us and shared some of his travel stories with us.
The bocadillo antxon is the most popular item on the dish: a sandwich with chorizo and a poached egg, sprinkled with thin fries. I thought it was really good, but there were a few of other dishes that were a lot tastier in my opinion.
The bocadillo calamares won me over the bocadillo antxon. It was a simple dish -- a sandwich with calamari topped with catalan aioli and (what looks like) squid ink aioli. I highly recommend it, or try both and compare them for yourself.
The buñuelos de calamar was another favorite! It's a squid ink fritter that has a creamy texture inside. Definitely have to try this one!
Lastly, the pulpo 3 texturas also deserves a shoutout. The octopus was cooked perfectly. In retrospect, this restaurant had the best octopus out of all the restaurants we ate at on our trip.
Overall, the food here was excellent and we had a great first night in Barcelona. Also, definitely get a bottle of wine with your meal. We got a Botella Montsant for 23 euros, a deal you can't get in other parts...
Read moreWhat a horrible experience. After making a reservation for 8pm we arrived at the restaurant @7:50pm and made an attempt to let them know we’ve arrived. Most tables were empty and when we asked if we could sit they told us we couldn’t. And that we had to wait for our time slot. At 8.05pm we were seated at our minuscule table and 5 mins later the menu arrived. Within 10 mins we had ordered drinks and food. The drinks arrived, at 8.55pm the food was still on its way we were told. After asking several times about our food we finally got a small plate of 4 croquettes which were cold. So, we decided not to wait anymore and got up and headed to the exit to pay for the drinks and the one tapas dish we had and look for dinner elsewhere. When tried to explain that it was already a very long time to wait for tapas the waiter got upset and confronted us, instead of being apologetic for the one hour wait. Anyway, nice atmosphere at first but the worst service and rudeness was not worth it. If want to eat do not go to this place. Obviously management has zero clue on how to run a food establishment. Horrid service...
