As we were unable to get into La Pepita we decided to give this sister restaurant a go. Three sittings in this tiny restaurant, 19:00, 21:00 or 23:00. I loved the wallpaper inside but all the scribbles on the walls, tiles and lamp shades were slightly off putting for my taste and the lighting isn’t great either. Nonetheless we ordered calamari, beef carpaccio with foie grass, salmon tartar, aubergine fritters with goats cheese and honey, beef stew and some foie grass with coffee and white chocolate. The calamari was spicy (unusual I thought) but utterly delicious and melted in the mouth. Beef carpaccio flavoursome and thinly sliced with “grated” foie gras- a total delight. Salmon tartar was good and on a throne of fresh seaweed. Beef stew was quite chewy and we didn’t finish it. Aubergine fritters with goats cheese, honey and apple were nice but not crispy enough on the outside which made them a bit soggy but the flavours were awesome together. The foie gras were discs of pate topped with a white chocolate mouse like cream sprinkled with coffee grinds - for me they could skip the chocolate any day and serve in its own beauty on little discs of toasted bread. Unbelievably rich and decadent. Service was ok. Our young server was a bit unknowledgeable with little personality as were the other staff who shouted over one another and there was a lot of urgency in the air as if they were to chasing the turnover of tables which I assumed it was. That in itself was off putting and we were kind of grateful to leave. Bill came to just under €100 which included a bottle of Merlot. All in all quite expensive for what it all was. I would not seek to visit again but if you’re stuck for somewhere to eat it’s worth a shot. Everyone’s views are different and you might enjoy it more...
Read moreDon't come to this restaurant.! We specially walked a long way to go to Le Pepita, but led by the staff to dine at Mini Pepita.
I'm not sure what the difference between the two. But i want to warn others, don't go to this Mini Pepita!! The staff's attitude was extremely poor. When ordering, she demanded that we follow her way, don't order like that.don't order like this!.
We did as she said, but still ended up ordering wrong. The whole process was accompanied by sighs and impatience. When we said it was okay, no need to change or redo the order, she kept asking multiple times in a very unpleasant manner if they could change it. After we said "it's ok" many times, she stared at us with a stern look and asked, "Are you sure?" Honestly, we felt very offended!
Being friendly and polite didn't earn us any respect. I need to write down the whole situation. I want to say that there may be difficulties in cross-cultural and language communication, and everyone's English pronunciation may have its own accent.
Please don't communicate with your guests with an arrogant tone and attitude!
The last day of our trip in Barcelona was really disappointing! There are many delicious places to eat tapas, but today's experience didn't taste good to me. Maybe it's related to my mood, or maybe it just...
Read moreWe previously ate at La Pepita and enjoyed our meal. The food and wine were excellent here however we were disappointed with the service. There were four of us seated at our table. We ordered cocktails and were about to order food when suddenly a second server arrived and asked us to move to another table since they had a party of ten arriving. We agreed but that is inconvenient since the management should have realized it before seating us. Secondly, we had finished enjoying our meal and just began our desserts when the server placed the bill on our table. That is very rude since we hadn’t finished our meal and planned to order a chipito to finish off the meal. That’s a very American style of service that is extremely unpleasant and that we’ve never experienced in Barcelona. Also, we live here and my husband is a citizen, we’re not tourists and don’t like getting treated this way. We’d like to return but there are many other restaurants that treat people with respect...
