La Malcriada Esmorzars — Restaurant in Barcelona

Unassuming brunch/breakfast restaurant near Plaza Catalunya and La Rambla. Went here with my friend for brunch. I had the chilaquiles, to satisfy a long standing craving. The tortilla chips were firm and held on throughout, not becoming soggy, a must for this dish. The sauce was cream based and a little heavy, especially when coupled with the side of sour cream. Eggs on top a plus, and the marinated onions believe it or not were the highlight of the dish. My friend had an eggs, pancake and bacon dish. He had no complaints, though ate 1 of the three pancakes. Fresh squeezed OJ always a delight, but quite a common finding here in Spain. Coffee was good, but our server lacked knowledge of what a macchiato was, though eventually figured it out. It was pretty disappointing for what we expected. Bacon was like glass with how hard it was and matcha latte was really powdery and wasn’t mixed on arrival. Pancakes were different to what we expected but that could just be wrong expectations as we expected thinner pancakes but we got very thick pancakes that taste just like cake. Service was not great, nobody collects your plates so we weren’t sure if we had to wait for waitress to be around or not to pay so we waited really long then realised we should pay at the counter. At the counter we got basically no help with the card machine and I was just basically left alone with it, when I payed the receipt wasn’t even torn off and I just had to leave the card machine like...

I’m a regular here and usually love coming, but today’s experience was beyond disappointing. This morning, the tall blond waiter stepped on my dog, causing my dog to scream in pain, and didn’t even bother to turn around or apologize. When I expressed my frustration at the bar, I was met with an indifferent "we are very busy" as if being busy justifies a complete lack of basic decency.

No level of business should excuse ignoring someone after hurting their pet. This was not just careless, it was outright rude and unacceptable. I used to recommend this place, but after today, I’ll be doing the opposite as much as I can in every...
