We have done 5 escape rooms at Maximum Escape in Barcelona and would definitely recommend them to others:
-Dungeon with Game Master (GM) Josep
Prisoners of Alkaban with GM Michele
-Ulysses Spaceship with GM Victoria
Sherlock Holmes vs. London Devil with GM Denisse
-Gangsters: Money, Guns and Whiskey with GM Fede

From Favorite to Least Favorite:
#1 - 5/5 - Gangsters: Fede is one of the best GMs I’ve ever experienced. He really gets into his role and it makes the whole experience that much better. I liked the puzzles and the storyline in the room made sense. Overall an amazing experience.
#2 - 5/5 - Dungeon: Josep is a new GM and did a fantastic job. The room had some great puzzles and was a lot of fun.
TIE #3/#4 - 4/5 - School of Magic with Michele - I loved the design of the room and we really enjoyed having Michele as a GM. I really liked some of the magical elements and in some ways, the puzzles in this room were my favorite of the 5. But there is, without giving too much a way, a narrow space that might not be passable for larger/bigger/fatter folks—and to bypass it, you miss out on a few stages of the game which is disappointing. Finally, the story isn’t quite clear enough at the end to feel like you achieved the objective and won. Instead, it sort of felt like we solved a puzzle and…oh, that’s the end of the game? Okay, cool.
TIE #3/#4 - 4/5 - Sherlock Holmes vs. London Devil. Denisse was a great GM and I loved the different puzzles in the room. The ambiance was really great and I loved the decorations. The puzzles toward beginning of the game are fantastic. Like the School of Magic, though, we sort of had to ask “can you explain the ending” because it felt like we just solved a random puzzle and the game was over. It wasn’t clear how what we were doing was contributing to the progression of the story per se. But I really liked a lot of the puzzles. (Recommendation for the team: without giving too much away, the phone’s volume is much too loud. People will naturally put it up to their ears and it definitely hurt them when I did so.)
#5 - 2.5/5 - Ulysses Spaceship. Definitely very, very good ambiance and decorations. It was really well designed, visually. Unfortunately, there weren’t a ton of puzzles—definitely this is more for folks wanting the adventure aspect over the escape room aspect. Less to be discovered and more things you’re sort of instructed to do. There’s also a narrow space in this room, that might not be suitable for larger/bigger/fatter folks. My teammate was pretty average sized and barely made it through. Luckily, unlike the School of Magic room, there was an alternative offered by the GM that did not take away from participating in the rest of the adventure. This room also had a few technical malfunctions that made completing some of the tasks more challenging. Definitely another one with an “Oh, it’s over. Okay.” kind of ending. The room isn’t bad, per se, just not as good as the others in...
Read more*Edited original three star review as they gave us another opportunity to join a game and it was also fun. We can recommend the gangster room, quite linear and not many puzzles but very fun interactive parts and great special effects. Very immersive and well decorated and Antonio was a helpful guide. Thanks
We did the "Snake stone" outside escape room/treasure hunt and it was very well done, we enjoyed it. What we did not enjoy was waiting for 45 minutes, phoning several numbers and running between three offices before we could even get started. It was clear that the game master had rushed into work after a phone call from the man I managed to track down and had no idea there was a reservation. This made the start of our day stressful and then we had to rush though the game to make it to our birthday lunch in time. For this reason we feel like the cost was too high for the service we got which is a shame.
The girl at the office (who gave us our badges) when we returned was very nice and full of...
Read moreOur host, Marc, made my very first escape room experience unforgettable. We chose the Dungeon room, and he immediately got into character—delivering just the right amount of spookiness for me, while still being mindful and accommodating to my companion who scares easily.
Marc was incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional throughout. He even offered to guide us in either Spanish or English, which was a thoughtful touch. As tourists, we really appreciated how he went above and beyond—not just with the game itself, but also by sharing great recommendations for places to visit. On top of that, he kindly arranged for us to start earlier than our original booking.
The room itself was beautifully designed, but it was Marc who truly elevated the whole experience. I wasn’t sure escape rooms would be my thing, but after trying it because of the glowing reviews, I can confidently say it exceeded all expectations. Thanks to Marc, it was an amazing,...
