Mama Gorda - Cuina Freestyle — Restaurant in Barcelona

Our trip to Barcelona after a few years away saw us disappointed with the food we had previously enjoyed at long running establishments. Thank goodness we stumbled across Mama Garda, located in an unassuming street. First impressions were good, a varied and interesting menu which was far from standard fare. We were warmly welcomed and accommodated on a very busy night. We had not booked a reservation……..I strongly suggest that you MUST ! Chicken thigh was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a delicious herb salad and perfect dressing. Ox tongue was sensational, accompanied by a velvety celeriac puree and rich, full flavoured sauce. We followed that with a super Pistachio Tiramisu and a Pear, poached in wine, finished on the grill, with ricotta, mint, hazelnuts and the most delicate chocolate tuille, both absolutely delicious. Avoid the tourist traps, average churned out dinners and book a table at Mama Gorda, it’s well worth a short detour from the main streets, you won’t be disappointed ! They describe themselves as "Sandwiches de autor, con mucho amor, mucho sabor, mucho flow," and I can confirm it’s all true! ❤️ Each bite is an explosion of flavors, and these are undoubtedly the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.

The "Sandwich solo para valientes": A real bomb! This sandwich is explosively flavorful, it was just WOW! 🔥

The Steak Tartare Burger: What a surprise to have raw meat in a burger; it was a treat!

And let's not forget the polenta fries! Surprising and original, they come with a delicious blue cheese sauce! 🍟💙

I can't believe this place isn't mobbed 24/7. The sandwhiches are delicious!! Best we've had in a very very long time. We ordered the 'sandwich de panceta crispy' and the 'sandwich solo paravalientes' with 'fritas gorda' to share. We've been arguing whose sandwich was better -- they're that good.

Small, chill place with a few tables inside. Run by two guys when we were there -- so nice. Great music taste too.

While we were there the power on the street went out and they took it in stride. They apologized profusely for the power going out too -- even though it was a freak outage. They got us table side candles and set up a speaker to keep the tunes going. 10/10 would go here...
