My birthday was a good opportunity for me to get My son to try more types of sushi because, until recently, he only wanted to eat sake and maguro sushi 🍣. I don't eat sushi very often because I don't want to eat bad sushi and good sushi is expensive. So I checked my to-do list in search of the best sushi venue (nearby) according to recommendations from friends and reviews. And I got Meshi-ya SAKAMOTO. I knew it was not a fancy place and that was not what I was looking for... but this is really rough: fridges on the way to the bathroom, boxes, etc. Again, I don't care but that could be improved. As I said, I know that sushi is expensive so I decided not to count before ordering, and I ordered everything I wanted to have and/or Kai to try. So basically I ate: 1 squid, 1 toro, 1 raw shrimp, 1 scallop, 1 roe, 1 turbot nigiris + 2 small pieces of a toro maki we shared. We also shared some marinated sardines, some pork tonkatsu, some mackerel and some edamame. Finally, I drank 2 beers. That's all. The cost for me was €60 approx. (no dessert and no wine). That's very expensive for Barcelona. But it doesn't matter if you get something special. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Yes, the mackerel was excellent and very original. The rest of the fish was good but not memorable and a bit too cold to my taste. And the rice was quite neutral and too cooked for me. We got 2 pieces of tonkatsu: 1 was very good, the other 1 was super greasy and not pleasant to eat. The sardines were not interesting at all. I simply am disappointed. And surprised because of all the good things I heard before 🤔 Don't get me wrong: the food was good, but absolutely not worth what they charged for it.

I can’t express enough how much I enjoyed it! The food is incredibly authentic and bursting with original flavors. The sushi platter was beautifully presented and offered a variety of fresh and delicious pieces. The daily special I tried was the sea urchin sashimi, you wrap it yourself in seaweed and paired with fresh wasabi—it was incredibly fresh and absolutely mouth-watering!
But what truly blew me away was the fried pork cutlet and shrimp rice. It was beyond delicious, with perfectly crispy breading and tender meat inside. The flavor combination was out of this world—it’s hands down the best dish I’ve had in Barcelona!
Beyond the food, the service was exceptional. The lady who served us was so warm and welcoming, always smiling and making us feel at home. Her cheerful attitude added an extra touch to the whole dining experience. The restaurant is small and warm, not many people as we visited on a Thursday night. Perfect for people like me who enjoy a quiet dining environment.
Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Japanese food in Barcelona. I can’t wait...
Read moreWhat a shame that this place is so small, because the food here is really big. We had the Sushi set for €31 and were presented with high quality fresh and good tasting food. If they had charged 45 Euro for it, it would still be worth the expense. My partner and I know how to make a good Sushi, and are not easily convinced. This chef knows what he is doing and we were not disappointed. In addition we received friendly and personalised service (as one would expect of a small family business), so that we would fully recommend...
