As a family of 3 we got what they call a "family room". Our stay was for about 4 days and the issues started from day 1 which for us started at around 2 in the morning after traveling via train for 5 hours from another city. So as you can imagine we are tired and just want to rest in what we thought was a five star hotel, well we were wrong. First night first issue...the bathroom. This bathroom layout was horrible. Let's start with the bathtub that has a shower attached, no issue there except for the fact there is a window from where the tub is that looks directly into the bedroom and vice versa. The bedroom side has a "curtain" which you can close to not see the tub, but that was made out of some see through material so that was pointless and didn't think it was very family appropriate for a "family room". Next let's move to the toilet, which I guess was fine, no issues there, it had a door to it. Next the double vanity sink. Again no issues there. Now to the shower...IT WAS SO TINY. So, the first person goes to take a shower...water is everywhere...I mean covering the whole bathroom. The shower door opens towards the shower which I feel was one mistake. The second is the door did not close properly so water is leaking through. So we call the front desk explain the situation they send someone to check it out. Someone comes takes a look and says I need to talk to their colleagues for a few minutes . An hour goes by, we call front desk again, their response yeah they spoke to us. Ok and? We can give you some towels to put on the floor...ha seriously? We ask if there is another room, we still had people who had to shower. This is a safety concern if one of us falls, but they didn't seem to care and since it was night they couldn't do much they had to talk to supervisor or whoever during business hours. So we deal with it take our showers with towels covering the whole bathroom. Next morning, I was expecting a call from someone, nothing no acknowledgement of what happened. So by afternoon we get ready to head out and decide to stop by front desk, spoke to someone who basically says yeah we are aware and we'll have maintenance take a look and let us know. We get back still no kind of communication from staff (we had to initiate all communication to get some update). Get back into room we don't see anything changes and at this point they can't/won't do anything about it. It would have nice to have been placed in a non family room or something. At this point we gave up on that obviously staff didn't care. So each night we would cover the whole bathroom with many towels before showering. Day 2, wake up to silver fish crawling in the bed...ugh yuck! The bedroom floor was dingy, I wouldn't call it carpet but like some plastic material. So walking around in their hotel slippers all you can feel and hear is stickiness. We used their glasses to drink from, those were in the same same spot as we let them unclean. Glasses were not cleaned until next day. Only positive thing was they had storage space in bedroom. This was not an...

I must start this review by saying that my overall experience at this hotel was pretty average. For a 5-star establishment, it falls short in many areas. The most crucial point is that the staff generally lacked friendliness. I don't expect employees to fake smiles all the time or to engage in lengthy conversations with guests, but a simple nod, smile, or even a 'good afternoon' when someone enters the building can make a huge difference.

Most of the time, it seemed like the staff was really unhappy and trying their best to avoid any contact with the clients. This was especially noticeable at the reception; on some days, I asked for room service to be done earlier since I planned to spend some time in my room, and the usual response was, 'I will let the cleaners know, but I cannot promise it will be done.' As a paying guest at a 5-star hotel, the least a receptionist can do is call the cleaning team to check the condition of the room I'm paying for.

In general, there was always a sense that the staff was bothered by the guests' requests. To make matters worse, on my check-out date, a very unfriendly receptionist handled my final charges without asking how my stay was, if anything needed improvement, or even how my day was going. She seemed annoyed to even utter a simple 'goodbye' to me.

Although my room was fairly decent, there was a sign on the window advising against opening it. This meant I had to rely solely on the NOISY AC for ventilation. What’s the point of having a window if you can't open it?

Another thing I would like to mention is that the SPA is not available for paying customers. It is an added expense, and they charge you €20 for every 50 minutes (Why not just round it up to 60 minutes aka 1 hour?) - it really just felt like a cheap scam to steal your money, one which I wasn't really expecting from a hotel of this supposed calibre.

Lastly, while the breakfast buffet options were decent, they too fell short of expectations. Most of the food lacked flavour, and the appropriate utensils were often missing, forcing guests to use unsuitable tools or even their hands to serve themselves.

All in all, I wouldn't choose to stay at this hotel again. For the price you pay, the service is definitely not up...

-- sorry, reposting this review as I used the wrong account first --

Five star hotel with very good price offers. Ended up here needing a room after a cancelled flight. Staff happy to welcome me and other travelers shortly before midnight. Fluent in (at least) Catalan, Spanish and English; kindly asked for my language preference and allowed me to practice :D Room was large, clean, with view over the adjacent little park, where also a convenience store is located should you need anything. Despite the nearby large street, I didn't have any issues with noise even with the window open over night (6th floor). The bed was perfect with large selection of pillows to choose from. Small kettle with some teabags was provided, I would have liked a larger selection of teas, though. The desk was spacious and you could even plug in an ethernet cable for better connectivity. Impressed by the services you can book through the app, such as having the laundry pickup arranged or further amenities delivered (only toothbrush was already in room, other things such as sleep mask, razor, nail file,.. could be requested). My laundry was picked up Monday morning and returned before I came back in the evening. Bathroom had a rainfall shower and massage jet bathtub, shower gel/shampoo etc. provided was Rituals brand. There was some hair in the tub but no big deal considering they didn't know they would have someone staying in this room on that day (I showed up there half an hour after making the booking) -- maybe it wasn't cleaned thoroughly because of this. Late checkout (20 EUR per additional hour) wasn't possible on the day I had to leave (fully booked), but staff kindly pointed me to a quiet table in the lobby I could work from while I waited for my...

We had the best stay here everything, including the service, was top notch!! The room was very spacious and had amenities such as bath wash, shampoo and conditioner hand and body lotion, mini bar, kettle and free bottles of water, robes and slippers. There's a tub if you want to soak but also a shower with it's own separate enclosure and a bidet. Pillows are really soft, not firm, bed super comfortable. Breakfast was great. Lots of varieties of things that you can choose from and the widest variety of milk, from lactose free to regular and oat or soy. You have options. Chef is available to make your eggs however you like. Coffee machines on site for coffee and cappuccino from the actual coffee grounds and hot water for tea. The waiters are very responsive and polite. There's a park right in front of the hotel where families with small kids can go to and a supermarket right across from there. There's also a pharmacy right next door. Bus stop is 1 minute from the hotel with direct trip to la Rambla (about 8 stops). The tram runs right behind of the hotel so you have options and the L'illa mall is about a 7 minute walk from the hotel. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. We also had dinner 1 night and it was good (see pics). There is also a spa on site which we didn't visit. Oh and you can ask for an adapter to charge your electronics at reception free of cost, just return when checking out! ATM machine in the lobby. Staff very helpful.

Staff impatient and dismissive. Lack of professionalism. I recently stayed at Melia for two consecutive nights, having booked a King Bed room. Upon arrival, I was given a room with two single beds pushed together, as the King room was not ready. I was told the beds would be properly joined later without changing rooms. However, when I returned in the evening the other day, nothing had been done — and to make it worse, cleaning chemicals were left behind in the room. I called the concierge to follow up, only to be told that my only option was to move to another room without a bathtub, which was a downgrade. This directly contradicted what I was initially told. When I reiterated my request, the staff became impatient and dismissive. The manager finally said “okay” without explanation. I asked what this meant and was met with a rude response. After waiting another 20 minutes, someone finally came to set up the beds — a task that took less than 3 minutes, clearly proving it could have been done earlier without all the unnecessary hassle. From housekeeping to concierge to management, the lack of professionalism and care was deeply disappointing. The way my concerns were handled showed a clear unwillingness to help, rather than inability. This experience fell far below the standards of a five-star hotel and left me feeling frustrated and disrespected.

Overall, I think Melia was just alright. They say it’s a 5 star hotel, but feels very much like a 4 star hotel with a 5 star lounge and 2 star service. The rooms were good, I stayed on the 8th floor and it was nice and spacious, with a big bathroom and tub/shower separate. The breakfast was amazing and it’s the best part of my stay. I enjoyed the selection of local Catalan/Spanish dishes. The omelette bar was a big plus. I am a MeliaRewards Gold member, but honestly I felt like it was a gimmick. There were no distinct special treatment for Gold members nor was I recognised for my status. Also, it doesn’t seem like the front/desk or staff is aware of the program in the first place or its benefits. They wanted to charge me €20 per hour for late checkout even when the program states that Gold members may request for a 4pm checkout in city hotels, subject to availability. If they asked me to pay, then it was available but they just didn’t want to offer it. Overall, I’m probably going to stick to other rewards programs where I’m a Gold/Platinum member. I get an overall better experience, I just wanted to try out Melia because it is a Spanish brand and it was my first time in Spain.
