Amazing time and food during our first visit to Orvay. Even though they didn't have outside seating, they did accommodate us by allowing us to sit at the table by the door with our dogs. The menu consisted of many amazing and unique-sounding dishes. Menu items were tapa style and a little more expensive than a typical Spanish tapas restaurant, but their food is far from typical and worth the higher cost. I have no doubt that we'd enjoy everything on the menu! You will immediately see the quality of the food in the photos we took. We got the following: Iberian pork cheek bite, crispy butter bread and truffle cream Slow Roasted Artichoke - sorry I don't have much of a description but it was awesome! Iberian pork sirloin with cauliflower puree, mushrooms and black truffle Tomato bread There is a great selection of vino and it's reasonably priced.
The view out the window is of a historic church and the large open area on Pg. de Born, which provides A LOT of great people-watching. The atmosphere inside was comfortable and inviting, and the staff was very nice and took the time to help with the menu choices and talk to you. We will definitely be going back to try more fantastic items. I recommend checking out their website...
Read moreThe dishes at Orvay are undeniably fantastic—execution, flavors, and presentation were all top-notch. The chefs deserve immense credit for their creative fusion approach to Catalan tapas traditions. However, our experience was overshadowed by the service, which felt cold, unwelcoming, and transactional.
From the start, there was no greeting at the door despite the restaurant being empty during Tuesday lunch. While ordering a bottle of cava, the male waiter who served out table skipped the customary wine-sampling step and immediately filled our glasses. Oddly, this initial enthusiasm waned, leaving us to refill our glasses for the rest of our meal.
Throughout our extensive order, there were no inquiries about our impressions or any effort to engage with us. Finally, as we left, there was no attempt to say goodbye or acknowledge our departure. This lack of hospitality significantly detracted from the overall experience.
The quality of the food had us initially excited about a potential second visit to explore the menu further. However, the awkward service has led us to reconsider, and we’d rather revisit Tapeo Born next door, where the service consistently makes guests...
Read moreOur first meal in Barcelona but unfortunately not our best. The burrata was delicious as were the curry chicken croquettes. However, the cod was far too salty which was a shame as the accompanying sauce was fantastic. The beef cheek was beautifully cooked, but came with way too much truffle potato puree which felt and tasted more like a thick, sticky and pasty fondue. We were the first customers of the evening, but when another couple was seated next to us they received a specials menu and what seemed to be a very attentive and explanatory break down of all the dishes from the female waitress - we didn’t get any of this which was a shame, and left us feeling quite dismayed that we didn’t receive the same caring service as other customers. We think there are better eateries in El Born, however the food here is obviously good, perhaps we just didn’t have the same experience as everyone else. There was also a really unpleasant drain smell in the restaurant which was a shame. I am a coeliac and received attentive service for my dietary requirements which I...
