Perros Mediterráneos — Restaurant in Barcelona

There was a live music set when we were passing by with a group of friends so we decided to give this bar a go. The least I can say is that we were not disappointed by our Friday night !

The bar has a vibrant vintage atmosphere with a singular personality. Staffs were very welcoming and took the time to explain us the menu. They have a great natural wine selection at a very affordable price. Count 4€ for a glass and more or less 20€ for a bottle. We tried all the cocktails as they were all excellent (thanks to the recommandation of the bartenders ;) and music was on point with a solid soundsystem.

After talking with the owners, we discovered that they organise exhibitions and different kind of events (art representations and openings, music events), not just your average joint but more of a social place with a distinctive philosophy.

Went there so many times since then and...

Doorman was aggressive, made us feel unsafe and unwelcome. Denied our entry as the bar was ‘too busy’ when we sat on the terrace he repeatedly shushed us, and put hands on us, tapping my friend on the head to silence her. No coincidence that we got this treatment because we were speaking English, as he got his friends to also intimidate us, shouting ‘we’re not in London’, they stared us down, and treated nobody else like this. They then followed our friend who stepped away from the bar in silence, trying to escalate the situation. When our friend complained to them in Spanish, they were suddenly acting different. Homophonic, bouncer with a very fragile ego, and given too much power by guarding a door. Ridiculous. Annoyed we even paid for the drinks, that we weren’t allowed to enjoy. Ruining the reputation of your bar by hiring people...

I came here with my youngest brother. He was gushing about it, saying all these things that by his tone of voice sounded like positives, but that I found horrifying. For instance, he said they frequently have live music. Given the size of the place I guess it is for people who enjoy sitting between band members and shouting while they play. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed it. The food was good, simple, yet original. And despite being super busy, the staff were attentive and kind.
