Tapería Catalana — Restaurant in Barcelona

One of the worst breakfast experiences I’ve ever had.

It’s honestly difficult to ruin breakfast, but this place managed to do it. The food was extremely mediocre and overpriced. €6.25 for a single tomato with a bit of stracciatella thrown on top, served like something from a street market. Two eggs cost €10.95 and came with greasy straw potatoes that were soggy and clearly fried in low-quality oil. The coffee tasted awful — bitter, burnt, and watery — and still cost €3.

Second dealbreaker was the restroom situation. We were sitting outside, and I was told the toilet was indoors. No other guests were there at the time. I went in to wash my hands, I realized the door could only be opened from one side. I got stuck in a tiny space with no signal, no way out — not even through the so-called emergency exit, which led straight into a dirty trash area. I was trapped and panicking for five minutes, banging and yelling for help, and bruised my fingers in the process. A cook finally let me out and insisted the door was working fine.

Shockingly, the same thing happened again to my mother. The door shut behind her and she also had to be rescued by the kitchen staff.

Avoid this place. There are far better options in the area — with decent food, coffee, and basic...

I went for dinner at Taperia Catalana around 10pm on 19th August. The food itself was okay, but the service was absolutely terrible.

I ordered three plates, water, and a glass of wine. The first dish arrived immediately (clearly not freshly prepared) together with the bottle of water, but no glass! How am I supposed to drink without a glass? Then the rest of the food came, but still no glasses and no wine.

We politely asked the waiter, but nothing happened. I then had to ask the hostess, and only at that point did they finally bring the glass and wine. Neither the waiter nor the manager bothered to apologise. The waiter looked unhappy to be there and showed no sense of customer service at all.

If the staff have no interest in serving customers, they shouldn’t be on the floor. Honestly, this was the worst service experience I’ve had not only in Barcelona, but in any country I’ve lived in or...

Amazing Tapas and Outstanding Service!

I had an incredible experience at this tapas restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing. The atmosphere was warm and lively, making it a great spot for a relaxed evening out.

What really made our visit special was the service. Wilson, our waiter, was hands down the best! He was incredibly friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and gave us fantastic recommendations that we ended up loving. His energy and professionalism added so much to our night.
