Chef Vicantan — Restaurant in Benalmádena

Visit 2022. Sad news, but after a great experience last year I was excited this year to repeat and expectations didn’t met. Tuna was over cooked. I still remember the extraordinary bread and butter from last year. This time we got toasted bread without personal touch. Dishes took very very long time to be served although no other clients to attend. I took a look to other reviews from this year and some other clients added comments representing pretty much our experience. This is just my subjective review. There is a clear gap between my experience a year ago and what I got this time. I was rethinking 1000 times if to do this post. Good price for some generally good food but the service (apart the manager that was great) was desirable. Maybe our waitress was new but we had to repeat 3 times the order to get it right and she had to fetch the manager to get details on a dish. The online booking system was very simple and good. Although I made a mistake with the booking date we could still get the last table available inside. The place looks ok but it does not have a particular charm. There is a wide range of food and most of what we picked was good. The aperol spritz was quite good, the mini burger ok, oxtail croquettes were food too, the bao of crab with a spicy mayonnaise was ok according to my wife, the pork bao was leaving salt, the tuna tartare was excellent, the carrillada (pork cheek) was good but only warmish and the side mash cold (may be done on purpose??) Honestly Chef Vicantan restaurant, should be declared an Ilegal experience, let me elaborate: You can't possible go there and eat for such fair prices, have a 5 start service to the detail, drink such a great bottle of Toro wine, spotted by the restaurant among so many normal wines out there (they found a needle in a haystack) and make everyone smile at the table by the end of dinner. And on top of that, cook with such an amazing quality of ingredients. Today was our second time at Chef Vicantan and again they delivered a superb culinary experience. We are locals in Benalmadena and CV is among the top 3 restaurants in the city hands down. I love when I go to a restaurant and feel home, trated well and confortable.
