Castillo de El-Bil-Bil — Attraction in Benalmádena

An obnoxious monument used to lure tourists into making them think that there is any form of respect or reverence towards Muslim Andalusi culture and tradition .

A place build to look as a Muslim palace or mosque ,where in reality there is hardly any place for Muslims to pray in this area,especially for tourists like myself. I literally rushed to this building hoping I will find a peaceful place to mediate and pray. To realise it was a place for entertainment and that's about all. To make it even more disgusting,the municipality has placed a nude statue in a small park just meters away from this centre.

This is a clear representation of how the local authorities fail to understand cultural sensitivities and fail to cater for a growing Muslim population that help the city grow and contribute to the local economy and its heritage.

I have visited Malaga several times through the years and I must say very little progress has been made. There are very little places to worship and mediate in peace and more and more pubs and clubs.

I have literally seen a British tourist ,excuse me , relieving himself in a public green space . Is this the type of tourists you are looking to attract?

Diseñado por Enrique Atencia, el Castillo de Bil Bil dispone de una construcción de estilo árabe, de enlucido rojo en su exterior y decorado con azulejos y bajorrelieves que siguen la exquisita tradición nazarí. El entorno del edificio dispone de jardines con palmeras y varias fuentes de inspiración musulmana, lo que le confiere una especial belleza. La iluminación nocturna resalta su porte, lo que la transforma en un elemento icónico del municipio de Benalmádena. Sin embargo, no se trata de un auténtico castillo ni se trata de un edificio de la época dorada de Al-Andalus. La construcción data del año 1927, cuando se comienza el proyecto como una villa de campo para una acaudalada familia de la época. En 1980 el Ayuntamiento de Benalmádena, de la provincia de Málaga, lo adquiere para acondicionarlo como equipamiento cultural de la ciudad, papel que hoy en día conserva, siendo sede de exposiciones, conciertos, conferencias, e incluso bodas civiles, siendo el edificio público donde más enlaces de este tipo se celebran en la provincia de Málaga. Se sitúa en una privilegiada localización a orillas del mar Mediterráneo, junto a la Avenida de Antonio Machado (antigua carretera N-340), y cerca del Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena, el Parque de la Paloma y el núcleo urbano de Arroyo de la Miel.
