La Gavilla — Restaurant in Bilbao

This is one of the few places that i really want to go back again and again if i come to spain again.

Got to know about this place through Trip's advisor recommendation. Read through the reviews by others and were very impressed how people were geniuinely pleased with their experience here. Hence, i really wanted to try it out personally.

I called to book in advance as advised by the others (the place has limited indoor seating areas) and spoke in my amateur spanish and the staff over the phone was very patient to get my details etc.

Upon arriving, we were welcomed with the bustling crowds. It was a very cosy atmosphere still! The service provided by every staff was top notch. They were very caring and made sure we got our food promptly. They even cleared the plates each time we finished a dish despite they were super busy. Just imagine how meticulous and detailed the chef's train of thoughts for his/her clients.

Food wise was nothing but excellence. We were blown away with the freshness and interesting combination of the sauce the prawn tempura. The egg plant dish was so juicy. The scallop with califlower puree was magnicent in terms of texture. Our favourite was the iberico shoulder that was served on the hotplate. It made such a grand entrance that really lived up the expectation. Juicy meat perfectly balanced with the fats that melt in your mouth! Paired with beer, it was heaven!

I am going to miss this entire experience greatly. Definitely recommend this bar restaurente to everyone who...

We went there on short notice, reserving a table half an hour before at dinner time, and luckily they still had availability. Staff was very friendly, speaking both English and Spanish, and perfectly trained. For example, they served wine to us by opening the bottle at the table, first letting us taste, and only then filling the glasses. Or, they were pretty busy when we arrived, so we didn't get a menu for maybe 5-7 minutes, but they remembered 1.5 hours later and apologised.

The food was great, you order about 3 dishes together with 2 people to share. Including drinks and dessert we arrived at a total of 80€ (40€ pp), a very fair price for the delicious food. We had the scallops, the honey-glazed spare-ribs, and the tempura-fried gambas. Each dish was excellently plated and tasted great. Our favourite were the gambas.

The atmosphere at la Gavilla is also very welcoming. Even though it is pricier, it doesn't feel stiff at all, but rather homey, elegant, and open. The entrance opens to a high ceiling, and only the back part of the restaurant also had a second floor embedded, making the place appear relatively spacious.

In sum, I definitely recommend this place. Our favourite restautant from our one week...

We tried pork shoulder (highly recommended) and marrow with mushroom rice (very interesting but I prefer the pork shoulder).

Amazing. Really amazing. Before entering we already had some tapas and alcohol but we still want to try some grill as we saw some Google photos of this store.

The reality was much much better than the photo. The perception was so rich: sound, smell and look. And as the dishes approaching us, everyone in the room was staring at the dishes. This was how amazing it was! The sound of sizzling pork shoulder and the smell of marrow. Omg. My mouth is watery again now.

The service was also brilliant. everyone was so helpful and the female staff even told us the difference between the wine they have in Bilbao and that in San Sebastian. I felt bad now that...
