The Beetle Bar — Restaurant in Bilbao

We found this place on Google Maps after an extensive search for a place in Bilbao that does a sandwich more like the ones back home in Ireland, as opposed to a traditional Spanish bocadillo. We were so happy with our find that we came back to it for lunch three days in a row. The sandwiches are delicious, they use regular sliced bread, they come with a variety of ingredients so you can mix and match and they don’t cut the roof of your mouth like toasted bocadillos! 😆 We alternated between; Spicy ham with tomato and a light spicy mayonnaise; Avocado, mozzarella and tomato; Egg and ham. We’re both allergic to fish/seafood but the Beetle Bar caters to all tastes. There were vegetarian options available and the smoothies seemed to be extremely popular. The sandwiches are sort of half-toastie-sized and they were inexpensive at €2.50 each - the same price as a glass of Cava! We can’t recommend the place highly enough. There was cold still lemon/lime- infused water on tap free of charge (they don’t seem to sell bottled water, which isn’t a complaint). The staff were lovely and friendly too. I think this place is underrated. Given previous brunch experiences I would rate this a 4.7. The sandwiches were delicious, very well priced and filling. The Bonito sandwich was a pleasant surprise, as we picked it based on looks and didn't know that it was fish. It was the most delicious of the sandwiches we ordered! We also got a couple of slices of bizcocho (pineapple and apple) and they were both delicious! My only suggestion for improvement would be to make iced coffees with cold brew, so they're not as watery, but other than that, it was a perfect...

Cute little spot just on the corner of the square. Incredibly nice vegan breakfast, simple with avocado toast also comes with tomatoes two slices of bread, orange juice and a coffee/tea of choice (no plant milk surcharge in this deal).
