Bar Santos — Restaurant in Córdoba

We were wandering around Cordoba Old town looking for some where to eat and we passed this place, which looked popular. I was specifically looking to try 'Rabo de Toro' a Bulls tail stew (€6.50) that is a speciality around this area and Salmorejo, a thicker version of Gespacho made with tomatoes, bread, oil, garlic and vinegar. €2.90.

Bar Santos had this on their menu as a Tapas which meant it was a smaller portion and if it turned out I didn't like it, it wouldn't have cost a fortune.

As It turned out I needn't have worried as both were excellent, the Tomato soup fresh and cool and the chunk of Oxtail with the bone joint still in place was very tasty and tender, served with some sliced potatoes it was delicious.

We also had 'Venad al Remero', Venison with Rosemary and that too was beautiful. €4.50.

As a vegetable we chose 'Berenjenas Miel'. Aubergines fried in batter covered in molases honey and that was incredible.#.50.

We had two glasses of house wine, one red (€2.30) one white (€3) a small bottle of water (€1.30) and a Coffee (€1.40).

The venue was a good choice. It was lively without being too noisy or uncomfortably busy. Its right on the corner of the Mosque just up from the Roman Bridge so right in the heart of the tourist area.

The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English.

The only reason I didn't give them 4 star's was because when i looked at my bill (this morning) i noticed they had charged me for two red wines and two white when in fact I only had one red.

I was over charged by €2.30 which isn't a lot but we also left a tip so that made it a bit expensive for nothing.

Well worth a visit but do check you bill...

Bar santos is right beside the Mosque/cathedral, and I visited near noontime right after exiting from the cathedral. There was a bit of a queue but it was a fast moving one. There is one table with 2 seats inside, hence most customers were sitting along the road outside to have their food. The famous Tortilla was 2.30 per serving which I felt could be shared amongst 2 individuals. It was very filling and if described, the outer layer was a thin omelette and the inner layer would be mashed potatoes with potato cubes. The tortilla comes with a biscuit stick. I didn’t feel that it was exceptional but definately a good experience. Other than tortilla, they also sell a variety of other tapas and bocadillos.

Overrated. I followed the hype for the great tortilla! It was a long line but going fast. However, the tortilla was pretty tasteless (my Spanish mother in law cooks an incomparable tortilla), the potatoes alioli like their Russian salad but only with potato and the only decent part was the salmorejo. The bocadillo de jamón (jamón sándwich) was ok, but I am sure there are much better places to try jamón. Overall it is a trap for tourists I believe. Everyone was sitting in front of the cathedral, cause there is no place to sit at the bar, eating with plastic knifes ands forks littering the ambience all around.
