I went to the restaurant with my family and left with the impression that it's more highly rated than it should be. It's not that it's a bad place, but based on the reviews I read online and in printed travel guides, I expected to be surprised by the flavors—and that didn’t happen.
I'll start with the flamenquín I ordered. Absolutely nothing interesting about it. Just a deep-fried breaded sausage with no flavor beyond that of the frying oil. Then I had a broth with meatballs, which was watery, lacked seasoning, and the meatballs had more flour and bread than actual meat. In fact, the meat was so indistinct I couldn’t even identify the protein. Also, I didn’t think the service was great either. The waiters were quick to take our order but slow to explain the dishes or to bring out the food. My wife ordered the meatball soup, and we only realized the waiter hadn’t put in the order after I had already finished my flamenquín and my son his fries. Finally, I found the price to be quite steep—in other words, expensive for what it delivers. On a positive note, I’ll say that the rustic decor and traditional style of the place are fitting for a...
Read moreAfter a small wait, we were allocated a table. We ordered Robbo de Torre and Salmorejo. Both came with a single Pan and nothing else, we realized something is missing but language is our issue, as we dot speak Spanish, are just about learning. Slamorejo I will pass, just ordinary, but Robbo de Torre was yum. I dipped my finger just to taste the gravy and it was heaven. I immediately tore a small piece of bread with my hand and dipped int he gravy, BOOM BOOM BOOM people all around me looked (Rather gave a dirty look) and I switched over to Fork and Knife and promised our self never again are we going to eat Robbio de Torre in a restaurant, never. As you cannot do justice of reaching every nook and corner and suck the juice out of those nook and cranny. Finished and left half hearted, but there is always a next time. Now a days we do a take away of only one dish Robbo de Torre and go home and tear the torre till satisfaction. Must eat. I like the gentleman who stand to greet and keeps drinking something but never...
Read moreMy friend and I went for lunch and ordered the mushrooms (setas), spinach with garbanzos, and the pisto with fried egg. The mushrooms came with a nice parsley/garlic oil on top, which was excellent. All dishes were quite good, definitely not too salty, like in some places.
The staff were very friendly and food came out very quickly. Only improvement would have been more bread after we finished ours. I did ask and the server said yes, but it never came.
I appreciated the guy standing by the door who remembered my name as we were leaving and asked me how everything was. Very sincere and a nice touch for overall experience.
One thing that made no sense was the Central European classical music playing—they should have Spanish guitar or something more fitting for a such a beautifully...
