We all really enjoyed our time in Zafiro. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and seated us in a lovely position, with a great view of the bay and the Penon. We had a mixed starter to share between the four of us. Consisting of lovely sourdough bread, alioli, olives, anchovies on a grated tomato bed, followed by padron pepper and thick sliced rose tomatoes with an amazing sliced (owners family produced) fresh cheese on top. For main course, one of the group had fresh sea bass with fresh broccoli, caulliflower and potato, which he said was possibly the best he'd ever had. Whilst the rest of us had a truly delicious (1kg T-bone from Galicia) tomahawk steak. The steak was about 3.5cm thick, which was then sliced into strips of around 1cm. This was brought to the table along with a heated slab of stone, on which we cooked the meat to our individual taste. We all felt to full to try any of there deserts and settled for coffee and or a liquor. The restaurant claim to source all possible ingredients from family, local farmers, or from suppliers in the family origin home area in Galicia and Callosa d'en Sarria. Which the delicious flavours and textures confirm. Whilst there, several tables had the paella, which appeared to be very popular and looked great as well. So, if I get the opportunity to visit again I certainly be trying that out. I highly recommend you visit here and give your taste buds a...
Read moreAbsolutely awful. We each had the set menu for €15, myself having the steamed mussels starter (quite a few were unopened) and my partner having the tostillas with shrimp. We then had our mains brought out, both dishes had a pathetic attempt at meat thrown on them. My lamb chops weren’t even a centimetre thick and were 60% bone and fat, my partners pork chops weren’t much better... the ‘garnish’ was a mushy lump of some vegetable and tasted vile, and a tiny portion of oily fries were piled in the corner of the plate. Once the waiter came back to ask us to choose from coffee or dessert we asked what the options were, he sighed and relayed a few different cakes or ice cream. Once the dessert was finished with we waited around 15 minutes for the plates to be cleared so we could get the bill and leave. Staff kept glancing at us and walking past until eventually we had to get up and ask someone for the bill - it wasn’t busy, just us and two other small tables. Won’t be going back, unfriendly staff, bad food...
Read moreThe menu of the day is an absolute bargain €14. We ate there twice during our short stay in Calpe. Meal starts with a large basket of toasted bread drizzled in oil accompanied with some garlic mayo, a tomato dip and a bowl of olives (menu only advertised bread so the dips & olives nice surprise). On both nights we were also given an additional starter as an extra course free...one night it was the cheese with jam (which we wouldn't have chosen so was nice to get to try) and the second time a beef croquette. The rest of the food was really good. The staff obviously enjoy working there, they are happy and friendly and make you feel really welcome. The second night they had a singer and there was some dancing which the staff joined in. Good food, good atmosphere & great price. We will go back to Calpe next year and will definitely return to...
