My husband and I selected the tasting menu at Godai during our stay in Cala en Bosc. For a Michelin restaurant, it unfortunately fell short. However, what redeemed our experience was the lovely service. The hostess and servers were both wonderful and accommodating. To start, it took awhile to get any water brought to the table. Our orders were taken and wine was brought before we received our first bottle of water. Additionally, we had selected the tasting and pairing ahead of time, which the restaurant did not seem aware of. We selected the wine pairing with our tasting, however, the wines were not paired with any of the courses. We received about 4 glasses of wine each (between the two of us) for a total of 140 euro over 12 courses. This was insane to us. The wine was not poured at specific intervals associated with the food that was served. What was extremely disappointing was the lack of connection to any of the courses as you would expect from a pairing. We surprisingly even received red wine for our main course of fish, and then no dessert wines or digestif with our dessert. The food itself was okay, but not what you’d expect from a Michelin restaurant (or really any restaurant regardless of status). The starters of fish over rice had very similar textures and tastes and we would have appreciated more variety. We received gyoza at one point, however, it was drowned in sauce to the point where you could not taste the contents of the gyoza. We also received a fried lobster, however it was lacking in flavor and not prepared as expected. We’ve definitely had better Japanese & seafood at other, more affordable, restaurants. Overall, our experience was disappointing. We arrived expecting a higher level quality of food and drink, however, left feeling like we majorly overspent for a mediocre meal (400 euro total). From other reviews, it seems we...
Read moreWhile visiting Menorca and eager to try this renowned restaurant, considered one of the best on the island, we left with a disappointing experience and a deep sense of frustration.
We ordered meat and tuna neck, and the dishes arrived completely bare, with no sides whatsoever. At this price point, we expected something more elaborate. You order tuna neck, you get tuna neck — that’s it. You order meat, you get slices of meat — simple concept. The taste was there, but the quantity, or at least what one would expect from a main course, was completely missing. Around €60 for two dishes that left us still hungry.
The height of disappointment came with the dessert, which deserves anything but that name. A more appropriate label would be amuse-bouche or canapé. The price, however, was very real: €9 each for two stacks of two crackers, precariously balanced with a chocolate ganache that was weak in both intensity and indulgence, topped with half a mint leaf and two sad little slices of strawberry. A disgrace, considering the supposed prestige of the establishment. We went from laughing at first to complete exasperation.
Don’t expect the staff to make any gesture to restore even a hint of the restaurant’s reputation. What was meant to be a romantic evening for us as a couple turned into the clear feeling of being treated like walking wallets. If you want to actually eat your fill, go for the €150 per person tasting menu. Judging by the portion sizes, though, there’s no guarantee you’ll leave satisfied. Honestly, our worst memory...
Read moreThe other reviews weren’t kidding about the portion sizes and I think that is the main downfall of this restaurant. We started with the Eel nigiri which was the size of a child’s finger. I couldn’t really see the eel as the foie was the main profile and it was over in an instant. Fleeting… for that money you can have dumplings with so much more flavour. The scallops maki rolls were very good and no no criticism on those. The butifarra truffled gyoza were nothing special to be honest. I ordered the black cod miso and I couldn’t believe it was just around 100g of fish. This dish is defined as a main course and was finished in three bites. The flavour was nice but overly sweet for me. I had way better in Nobu’s which is better value for money. My partner had the wagyu burger which literally came by itself. It did taste nice though. We didn’t even want to stay for dessert based on our experience of what was served. The staff were very nice, but it was a little confusing to have 4 different servers (including sommelier), not knowing who’s your server. They seem to have different functions so we had to figure out who’s who. I get what this place is trying to achieve and the concept is nice. The execution I feel doesn’t hold in terms of value/outouts compared to the other places on the island. Not a stand out and wouldn’t recommend to friends or family...
