The Orient — Restaurant in Ciutadella

I would give zero stars if given the option. My family came here for a meal on our recent holiday to Menorca. The food arrived at different times, my rice was bought out a while before my chicken so was cold by the time it came, my daughter’s Singapore noodles tasted like pot noodle and my son’s meal and my partners side dish didn’t even turn up. Staff couldn’t understand us or were just plain dismissive. In the end after asking numerous times where my son’s meal was as he was our main concern we told them to leave it and he would eat elsewhere. We asked for the bill and only noticed after that they had still charged us for the side that also hadn’t arrived- this was due to no description of the food ordered on the receipt, just prices. Once we worked it out they refunded but no genuine apology or embarrassment for the appalling service....

Now let me state this is not like your local Chinese in England. So don't go here if you are expecting it to be that! The people here do not speak the best English and that can be an issue. We ordered off the set menu and the normal menu, I got 2 spring rolls which were really nice and deep fried chicken balls with Cantonese rice. The rice was boiled and not fried but was alright. The deep fried chicken balls are small and do not come with any sauce, they have salted and peppered batter which was nice but just dry. My other half thought hers was alright, the other two thought the same it was alright but nothing special, I tried some noodles and they were odd. Outstanding. The quality and speed of food was exceptional. Probably THE nicest Chinese we've ever had in a welcoming, relaxed environment. The service level was perfect. Authentic and very polite. We were with our 3 year old son who requested noodles with sweetcorn, it arrived within a few minutes, with complementary ice cream pancakes. Our son then fell asleep and they helped line a few chairs up and provided a clean cover/blanket for him. A lovely, unplanned early evening meal. We got there at 19.30 and by 20.00 it got a lot busier with what felt like regular returners, perhaps testament to the experience. Highly recommended. I can't imagine you be disappointed.
