Emese and Balázs left Hungary in 2023 in search of a new home by the Mediterranean, and Mallorca welcomed them with its beauty and warmth. In Fornalutx, one of Spain’s most charming villages, they opened their first Grøenk in 2024, creating a space that blends food, community, and hospitality in the most authentic way.

Almost two years later, their vision has grown with the opening of Grøenk in Deià, one of the most exclusive and breathtaking locations in Mallorca. Despite the expansion, what defines Grøenk has remained unchanged: a philosophy rooted in the beauty of simple things — a smile, a kind word, and genuine friendships. Sometimes you find a restaurant that you like so much you go back again on the same trip — that was Groek for us.

We were two couples (NYC and Puerto Rico), husbands cycling from Pollença to Valldemossa and meeting our wives for lunch. What a find! The charcoal-grilled dishes were outstanding. I had the lubina — perfectly cooked, smoky, crisp on the outside, moist inside. My wife had the octopus, my friend the burger — all superb.

We relaxed on the terrace for nearly two hours. Service was warm and friendly. The surprise highlight: the blue cheese Basque cheesecake — subtle, balanced, and unforgettable. We canceled another reservation just to come back a few days later — equally fantastic.

We popped in for dinner and they were so kind to squeeze us in without a reservation. The owners were very kind and welcoming, the server was also very attentive and helpful, and we absolutely loved the cocktails from the barista.

Our food came promptly and was delicious. We’d had a big lunch that day, so went for some lighter dishes. I got the spinach salad and it was exactly what I needed to get some hearty greens into my system. My partner got the fried chicken sandwich and it also hit the spot. I wish we had bigger appetites. The table next to us got the schnitzel and steak - they scarfed it all and seemed very happy.
