Strat — Restaurant in Finestrat

We stayed at Hotel La Cala Finestrat, perfectly located right on the beach just 15 minutes outside of Benidorm, to celebrate my 40th birthday with family.

The hotel itself is wonderful, with stunning sea views and direct access to the beach. Starting each morning with coffee and breakfast on the balcony, overlooking the waves and watching the beach come to life, was an unforgettable experience.

For my birthday dinner, we chose Restaurant Strat, which is part of the hotel, and it was exceptional from start to finish. The food and service were outstanding. We began with smoked butter and homemade sourdough, followed by oysters and a series of beautifully crafted snacks.

Every dish impressed us, but a few stood out: a refreshing tomato salad with tomato consommé, melt-in-the-mouth lamb belly with a curried sauce, and a piece of tuna that was, without doubt, the best fish I’ve ever eaten.

Dining at this coastal restaurant was an unforgettable experience! Helmed by a previous MasterChef winner Claire Hutchings, the menu is filled with creative dishes that reflect her incredible talent and passion for the culinary arts.

We started with oysters that were so refreshing and delicious, setting the perfect tone for the meal. Highlights from the mains included the rich, tender beef rib tacos, flavorful steak tartare, and succulent Iberico pork—all executed with skill and finesse. We ended with the ‘Lua’—an inventive dessert featuring apple sorbet paired with black olives, an unexpected combination that was both refreshing and delicious!

The front-of-house team was warm and attentive, making us feel truly welcomed. And the setting on the coast—with stunning ocean views—provided the ideal backdrop for a special afternoon.

Absolutely superb. Boutique dining at its best. The absolute perfect setting, first floor on the beach at La Carla. Just beachside of Hotel La Carla. You have the choice of terrace or indoors. Both share tremendous views. We sat on the terrace and at 1945hrs in July we sat comfortably outside but indoors it was refreshingly chilled! Food. Wow. We exchanged dishes between vegan and main tasting menu. With wine, water and beer. We probably indulged a bit on the drinks! Anyway, let me tell you, we spent about €120 I think. But, the acid test - we will be back. No doubt. Absolutely brilliant. Just a joy to be there.
