What nicer way to spend time by the sea in Fuengirola than to return to Crispy Cod for delicious fish and chips? Or so we thought.... On arrival, we chose to sit out on the veranda as opposed to sitting inside although I (being a big bummed Brit) chose to swap my chair from one inside, after checking with the waitress. Not a problem you would think, except that one of the staff came over and said that if we wanted to use the inside chair then we should have sat inside! She said that if customers came in and sat at the same table on odd chairs they would complain! She wasn't bothered she said but the manager would complain! I said to her if he had a problem then send him out to me ! We were with friends who heard all this as, no doubt, did the English people on the next table. The food came and we ate it but it took the shine off the delicious food because of the tension this condescending woman caused over the chair swap. After we asked for the bill we politely had a word with her over the way she spoke to me. Her attitude didn't change though she apologised. She said she had informed the manager but at no time did he come out to rectify the problem. I told her quietly and calmly that we had been here several times and our friends much more often as us they live there but we would not be returning. She then had the audacity to say she had never seen us there before as if saying we were lying.... In the past after eating here I have given rave reviews. I'm not a moaner. I dont like to complain. If theres a problem i will say and as long as its addressed then thats fine. This woman upset our entire party on my behalf! She will not spoil another meal for us. Sad to say that. Hey ho. Plenty more fish in the sea. THE STARS I GAVE WAS...
Read moreEDIT TO RESPOND TO YOUR REPLY- We are not complaining about the food or the prices, more about the attitude of the staff at the time - the €5 difference in price? That would be our average tip, so is neither here nor there. Your waiter, as we were placing our order (after 7pm) could have pointed out that we were, in effect, ordering the 'special', which would have suited us fine. After finding this place just before we left fuengirola in 2018, we were very pleased to see that it was still here in 2019 and managed at least 3 meals here in our 10 day stay. We were looking forward to visiting again in May 2020, but unfortunately Our Government and the Spanish Government conspired to keep us away (Covid 19 related). This year (2022) we finally managed to get back to Fuengirola and made it our mission to visit our favourite chip shop again. Unfortunately it will have to be our last visit, Our meal, 2x fish, chips & mushy peas - I had a coffee with it - came to over €25, which is a fair price for the meal we had - or so we thought. While we were eating, and before the bill arrived they posted their 'Special Offer' - Fish and chips with curry sauce or mushy peas, plus a small beer, glass of wine or tea or coffee - for €9.95. Which would have been a saving, to us, of over €5. When we pointed this out we were informed that as we hadn't ordered the special we had to pay the full amount. So, good luck Crispy Cod. You won't be seeing us again. Still rated 3stars as there was no problem...
Read moreWhat an absolute shame. Had a day out in fuengirola to watch the rugby and was looking forward to traditional fish and chips all day. On arriving at the shop we were met by a miserable woman who seemed to be in charge who had a bad attitude from the first time she spoke.
We sat down to order and on being given the menus realised that it was more expensive to eat at a table. So we decided to order take away for the price as set out on the board behind the counter, only to be puffed and blown at by the miserable woman.
We ordered our food, large cod and chips for us both, we patiently waited 10 or 15 mins while it was cooked got our food and left the shop.
Well what can I say, the batter was crispy, it was over cooked and almost burnt, not golden brown but dark brown and swimming in grease, the fish inside or what there was of it was rubbery and over cooked, and I literally had 15 chips, what a waste of 8.95€
Maybe it was just a one off and maybe I should have had a pukka pie but that was 4€ without chips.
Sorely disappointed by the service and even more so by the quality and portion size of the food, especially for the cost.
Sorry crispy cod, the fish and chips were at best less than mediocre and certainly not worth the premium...
