Extremely rude.
Edit: Adding more context due to the owner's response. I'm a solo traveler and often like to do a bit of work at cafes to get outside and not just work alone at my Airbnb. I specifically look for great coffee and atmosphere and this place seemed lovely.
I never spend more than an hour or so - I'm conscious that this is a business, not a co-working.
When I entered, there was a guest doing a work meeting inside the cafe loudly speaking in English, and one other set of guests. A sign on the wall read "Computers are allowed, but just for a while ;)" And when he left after working another 20 minutes, the cafe owner waved goodbye to him in a friendly way.
OK, great, I thought, this is a place to sit for a while. I focused in on my work, and I ordered 2 coffees and breakfast over my time there. After about an hour, I was wrapping up an assignment. People started to come in for lunch, and one big group asked for my extra chair.
I think this rush of people made the owner nervous that I was occupying the table, and he waved at me and rudely said, "Hey, reminder about the sign behind you," AKA the sign that said computers are allowed for "a while ;)"
(BTW, I sent my boss a message at 1:05 when I first arrived and then this happened at 1:52, so it was less than an hour, and DEFINITELY not 2.5 haha.)
I was genuinely shocked by this interaction. I'm happy to leave if you tell me you need the table. I'm happy to abide by policies. But I was genuinely focused on my work, enjoying the atmosphere and unaware that I was violating anything.
Plus, what is "a while"? 30 minutes? 1 hour? Depends?
If you're going to kick customers out for working -- you need to define your policy 100% clearly. Either NO laptops, or only 1 hour max, or whatever it is.
You can't expect your customers - especially travelers, of which there are many visiting you for the first time - to magically know when you want them gone. Define your policy, or politely ask people to give up their...
Read moreIt’s not my first time at this place, and I can say that coffee here is really good. But the way owners treat guests is strange. During one of my previous visits I went to the toilet and when I went out, the owner told me in a rude manner that toilet is only for guests, though I was a guest… she just forgot about it. Today I ordered a coffee and a croissant and was sitting with my laptop and the lady came to me and told me that laptops are prohibited to use for work. Though it was less than 1 hour I was there and I was still drinking my coffee. I can understand if I were sitting there for hours working with 1 coffee, but I don’t think that 45 minutes is a problem. The atmosphere is unfriendly, I don’t think I will come back. Sad, because the coffee is really best...
Read moreI stayed in mijas and needed a good coffee. This was the only coffee shop south of malaga I could find that made coffee with a V60. The man serving was very friendly and happy to talk about the locally sourced coffee used for both filter and espresso.
My filter was an Ethiopian roasted in malaga and was made very well. It tasted great. I followed this with my first bombon and though very sweet I'll definitely have another in the future.
My daughter was a big fan of the homemade cookie she had.
Big recommendation for anybody wanting great coffee and a nice...
